These past few weeks, things have been fairly uneventful.
Jimin has been settling into his new role as Luna and it makes you happy to see him interacting with the community in many ways. He's developing that strong relationship with the pack that every Luna should have.
And to your surprise, you've been seeing less and less of Hoseok lately. Not because you're avoiding him, but because he's been secretly meeting with Taehyung in the woods. You only know this because you accidentally stumbled upon them when you went out for a run one day to clear your head. He was lucky that Jimin was busy and couldn't come with you.
You promised not to tell, of course. More than anything, you just want your brother to be happy. And it's not like he chose his mate. He shouldn't be punished for something he has no control over.
But you know that the fear of your parents finding out is looming over Hoseok's head. So when he clears his throat at dinner one evening, you're expecting the worst.
"I found my mate." He says suddenly, and your blood runs cold. Your parents' eyes snap to Hoseok and you mind link him, asking him what he's doing but he ignores you.
Your mother smiles, having no idea what's coming. "That's amazing! Who is she? What does she do for a living?"
"Tell us all about her, son." Your father looks happy for the first time in a while. He smiles at your brother in a way he has never smiled at you.
You lock eyes with Yoongi on the other side of the table, who looks just as caught off guard as you are. Only Hoseok seems to know where this is going.
You look at your brother, who seems surprisingly calm. As if he has come to terms with his fate. "It's the Beta of the Blood Moon pack. And my mate is a he, not a she." He takes another casual bite of his dinner, as if what he said was nothing out of the ordinary.
Your parents' eyes widen, as do Jimin's and Helena's. "Excuse me?" Your father's voice is hard as he fixes Hoseok with a cold glare. The way his face changes in an instant is terrifying, to say the least.
Your brother swallows thickly and you can see his confidence faltering. A few beats of silence pass before he speaks again, his voice weaker this time. "I said my mate is a-"
"Get out." Your father interrupts, standing up from the table. His eyes are full of rage.
"Father I-"
"You are a disgrace to this family!" He slams his fists down on the table, making the silverware rattle. Everyone flinches back at his loud voice, including Hoseok. "Now get out of my house before I kill you myself!"
Hoseok's lip trembles and he nods. He pushes himself up from the table, nearly knocking over his chair. Everyone is silent, frozen in their seats as Hoseok heads towards the stairs. You assume he's going to grab his things.
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Hoseok stops in his tracks, turning around. "Out, right now."
He's not even going to let him grab his necessities? That's just cruel. "Father, just-"
"You." His angry glare turns to you. "Stay out of this."
You listen because you've never seen him this angry before. There's no telling what he will and won't do. Then he turns back to Hoseok. "Get out of my house right now. I won't say it again."
Hoseok's gaze turns to you and you watch as a single tear slips down his cheek. He musters up a small smile, seeing the worried look on your face. "I'll be fine." He mind links you. Without another word, he walks out the door.
A few moments pass and the tension in the room makes it hard to breathe. You can't take it anymore. So you rise from the table and head upstairs, your loud, angry footsteps echoing through the silent house.
You sit on the edge of your bed, holding your head in your hands. And despite your reluctance, tears start to trail down your face.
It's not long before Jimin comes in, sitting beside you and rubbing your back comfortingly.
"It's going to be okay.." He coos. You hope he's right.
