"The Cavalry Battle!"
What the fuck does that mean? You blinked. The picture on the screen behind Midnight as she announced the second round of the festival was a sketch of four people holding someone up in the air; it wasn't like any sort of activity you'd ever participated in before. Whatever it was, it looked to be team-based, so you were glad that literally every single one of your classmates had made it through the obstacle course.
"The points are distributed by order of placement," the pro hero explained. "Five points for the person in 42nd place, and increasing by 5 each time until second place. As for the first place winner... Their point value is 10 million points!"
Midoriya paled. You looked at him in shock, but most of the other students who would be continuing on looked at him like hungry predators. You could practically sense what they were all thinking: Midoriya would be an easy target.
"Get into teams of three to five," Midnight said. "All individual points will be combined for your total team score."
While you would have loved to have been on a team with Bakugou or Todoroki (or both), everyone else seemed to have had that same idea. The two boys were instantly surrounded by the majority of the people who had gotten through to the second round, but even if they hadn't been, you doubted they would have picked you. After all, they had literally no idea what your quirk was. Plus, Todoroki had given you a declaration of war not a couple of hours ago and you were doubtful that he had already gotten over that. This left you with very few choices; however, you weren't the only one who wasn't swarmed or was swarming someone else for a team.
"Hey Midoriya," you said tentatively. The boy was standing, still shell-shocked from Midnight's announcement that he would be carrying an egregious amount of points. "Wanna team up?"
Now he stared at you, his mouth parted in surprise. "S-Seriously? Are you serious? Tell me you're not joking..."
"I'm serious," you said. The boy burst into tears.
I hope he's crying because he's happy about getting a teammate and not because he's so offended that someone like me would want to pair up with him, you thought, trying to calm him down.
"Seriously, dude," you said. "If anything, you should be wary about me being on your team. You don't even know what my quirk is."
He wiped his eyes and sniffled. "Y-Yeah, I guess, but...I trust you, (L/n)."
Before you could even take in the compliment he'd given you, Uraraka bounced over and clapped her hands together in prayer. "Deku! (L/n)! Let's team up!"
Midoriya–just having stopped sobbing–nearly burst into tears again. "Uraraka, you too? Are you guys sure? Everyone's gonna be after me and my stupid ten million points."
"Then we'll just have to work together to keep them away," you said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You gotta have some faith in yourself. I mean, you got first place in the obstacle course, and it definitely wasn't because Todoroki or Bakugou just let you win. You've got mad skills."
He buried his face in his hands. "What did I do to deserve such good friends?"
"She's right," Uraraka giggled. "If we work together we can totally keep the 10 million points. But it would probably help if we got a fourth person..."
You nodded, looking around to see the various teams that were being put together. Uraraka and Midoriya spoke about asking Iida, but you could see he had been selected for Todoroki. Frowning, you tried to think of who else could possibly be convinced to team up with someone who had ten million points and could barely use his quirk without breaking his entire body and a girl who as far as they would know was quirkless.
