19: I Dreamed a Dream

Stay away...

Your dreams are fragmented. Shards of memories floating in an empty void. You try to grab them as they whir past you, but you are too slow and they disappear before you can latch on. The only thing that sticks with you as they pass is the feeling, the feeling of utter loneliness.

You are four. It has been months since your quirk manifested and everything has changed. Where your mother used to spend time baking, letting you measure and pour the ingredients, there is a cold and empty kitchen. Where your father used to work for hours in the garage, there is only the silent, slowly rusting motorcycle that will never be driven again.

It is all your fault. You know this because they told you so.

You are eight. Alone you sit on the playground, banished to the shadows by your peers who screamed in horror when you showed them your quirk for the first time. You make a promise to yourself that you will never show anyone again.

You wish you had been born quirkless.

You are eleven. There is a tiny pink Pokemon lost in the grocery store, wandering the isles. The other patrons scream, but you know the Clefairy is more afraid of them than they are of her. You do not have to fight this Pokemon; she welcomes your friendly touch.

A dark haired man with tired eyes watches as you take the Pokemon into your arms. You do not know it yet, but he will save you from yourself.

You are sixteen, standing outside the gates of UA, unsure of what's to come, but ready to face it.

There is fear. The overwhelming fear that everyone here will be the same. That everyone here will push you to the side, will hate you just as your parents do.

Loneliness melts into something sweeter. Something softer. A warm glow that can only be elation.

You are accepted. You are loved.

You are happy.

You do not wish to die.
