You weren't scheduled to fight Tokoyami until a later round, so you set yourself up with the rest of your class in the stands. Kaminari and Kirishima were on either side of you, both talking about their upcoming fights.

"Are you nervous, (L/n)?" Kirishima asked.

"A bit," you admitted.

Kaminari threw his arm over your shoulder. "That's just because you're sitting so close to me." You rolled your eyes but didn't push him away; he seemed satisfied and kept his arm around you.

"Alright listeners!" Present Mic announced. "It's time to kick off the next round of the Sports Festival! Our first round is between Class 1-A's Midoriya Izuku and his opponent, General Studies student Shinso Hitoshi!"

The crowd erupted into a roar and you joined them. Most of your friends–save for Bakugou and Todoroki–were screaming out your classmate's name, but you were cheering for both boys on the inside. You still weren't exactly sure what his quirk was, but Shinso might have a chance if he could get Midoriya under his spell. Both of them had a fighting chance, and you liked each of them. They didn't seem to like each other, however. They were glaring at each other down in the arena; it was hard to see from your distant seat, but it seemed like they were having a conversation and Midoriya was not happy with what Shinso was saying.

"And, begin!" Present Mic yelled.

Midoriya instantly took off running toward Shinso, the two said something to each other and the green haired boy stopped dead in his tracks. Everyone around you was in an uproar, wondering why he wasn't moving.

"What are you doing? Move motherfucker!" Sero yelled, gripping his hair out of stress.

Mina jumped up, shaking Kirishima by the shoulders. "He can't lose that easily! Do something!"

"What am I supposed to do?" Kirishima said, his voice vibrating by the sheer force of Mina's movements.

Just before all hope for Midoriya was lost, just as he reached the edge of the playing area, you saw a flash of green lightning appear in his right hand. It was barely visible, almost like a trick of the light, but you could have sworn you saw it. Sure enough, whatever had happened seemed to have snapped your friend out of his trance. His fingers were purple and bruised just like they always were when he used his quirk and he turned around to face Shinso with a furious look.

This time Midoriya didn't let up and raced at Shinso, throwing punches with impressive speed. Using his un-hurt hand, Midoriya covered his mouth.

"So it does have to do with speaking..." you heard Ojirou mutter.

Makes sense, you thought. That reporter lady said something to him right before he told her to leave me alone. I guess it also makes sense with what he said about his quirk not being great for the robots in the practical exam; they couldn't talk to him.

It was over only a few moments later. Midoriya grabbed Shinso and literally threw him over the white line–an impressive feat for someone who was just using their natural strength. Your class burst out into cheers and you clapped along, but you couldn't help but frown slightly at the disappointed look on Shinso's face. While your classmates were distracted, you slipped out from underneath Kaminari's arm and made your way through the arena. You knew the vague area where Shinso would be when he left and all you could do was hope he hadn't moved too far before you got there.

When you made your way to the bottom of the stairs, you saw Shinso leaning against the arena wall, staring intensely at nothing in particular. He didn't acknowledge you with so much as a glance as you entered. You walked over and leaned beside him.
