colby pauses the movie he was watching as he heard a knock sounding from the front door. he stood up and walked downstairs to open the apartment.
he barely had time to open the door before he felt another body collide with his. he knew immediately from the light blonde locks who it was. he felt the small arms wrap around his torso. he smelled the familiar scent of mint and vanilla.
"sam? hey what's wrong?" he asked as he felt the smaller boy start to shake in his arms.
colby shut the door and guided them to the couch on the first floor of his apartment. he sat down and allowed sam to continue holding him close.
they sat in silence as sams small sobs soon stopped and became smaller sniffles. after allowing sam to calm down, colby turned to him and furrowed his eyebrows.
"you never-"
"kat and i broke up." sam announced before colby could finish his question.
"really?" he asked as he linked his fingers with sams.
"mhm. she asked to talk to me earlier. and she told me how she thinks we aren't ready for our relationship right now. you know, right person but wrong time kinda crap."
colby nodded his head and didn't respond for a while. he was busy thinking. he had to sort through his thoughts.
why couldn't he decipher his emotions? he didn't know what was more important to him right now. letting sam know he was loved, or allowing him to heal from his recent break up before springing something like this on him.
he decided that it wouldn't be a good idea to let his thoughts run wild for too long. he grabbed sams head and gently laid it on his shoulder before gingerly pressing a soft kiss to the crown of his head.
sam looked at him with soft eyes. neither one of them said anything. colby sat with sams shoulder on his head while staring at the balcony. sam sat staring at colby with admiration in his eyes.
after a while, sam couldn't take it anymore. he lifted his head and turned colby to face him. he went against his better judgement and leaned forward to capture colbys lips in a quick peck.
colby didn't have time to process what just happened before sam pulled away.
colby immediately pulled sam back in. both felt a small feeling of euphoria. this tome, it was colby who pulled away. he rested his forehead against sams as they let their breathing mix.
sam had a light pink dusting his cheeks as he spoke.
"so. what now?" he asked softly.
"what?"
" well are we not gonna address the fact that we just kissed?" sam asked as he shyly his his face in colbys chest.
colby leaned down and pecked the blonde locks that were tickling his chin.
"do you wanna address it?"
"i don't know what i want" sam said as he struggled to settle his thoughts.
"that's okay. you don't have to rush yourself. i can wait. i'll always wait." colby softly smiled as sam wrapped his small arms around colbys waist.
sam thought to himself how he loved the feeling of safety he felt in this environment with colby. how he loved hearing the others laugh. how he loved the conversations. how he enjoyed every second they spent together. he thought how he couldn't stand to lose the person sitting right next to him. he thought that this is what love must be. he looked up and smiled.
"you won't have to wait for long. i want you. i want us"
colby looked down at sam and softly chuckled before nodding and resting his chin on top of sams head.
