I woke up to my daily alarm reminding me to get up and ready for another day of baseball. I did my morning routine and threw on my normal clothes. A tshirt and baggy jeans. Along with converse and a scrunchie. I walked downstairs to find my parents smiling wide waiting for me. It's a weird thing to see so early in the morning so I awkwardly smiled back with wide eyes. They giggled and said they had good news.
"We're going to stay here, no more job offer in New York!" my mom exclaimed.
I couldn't believe it. I ran into their open arms and jumped around with them smiling. I continued to shower them with "thank yous" and stopped to grab an apple. Before heading out to tell my friends the great news, I opened the door facing in the houses direction still and yelled one last thank you and I love you. I backed up, not turning around yet and shut the door. Once I did turn around I saw all the boys waiting on my front porch. I jumped a little too much and almost fell causing all of them to laugh. Another weird thing to see so early in the morning. I realized what they were here for and I put a frown on my face. They all took that as a "I'm moving" so their facial expressions fell. I laughed out loud.
"Just kidding losers I'm staying."
They all exploded with happiness and crowded me with a big hug besides Mattia. He was there when I revealed the news about me staying but by now he was already walking to the Sandlot. I saw him up ahead and asked the boys to give me a second with Mattia. They all nodded and started running to the Sandot like children to see who would get there first (my bet is on Ale). I giggled under my breath and jogged up to where Mattia was. I reached for his hand and grabbed it to turn him around.
"Hey didn't you hear I'm staying" I smiled wide.
"Yeah I heard" he said while jerking his hand out of mine and running to the Sandlot behind the boys.
A piece of me felt like it was punched, while the other part of me wasn't even surprised. What is wrong with him. I scoffed and started to walk to the Sandlot as well.
We played our usual game all day long. None of us could ever get bored while playing. We finished up and all gathered in a circle to talk about the next day.
"Yooo guys tomorrow for this big firework show we meet here at 8 got it" Roshaun announced.
We all nodded in agreement. I was so excited for tomorrow. Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. Watching the fireworks go off always gave me such a thrill. Hopefully I could talk to Mattia as well. I never really wanted to admit it. But i do like him. I know I shouldn't because he obviously doesn't feel the same, but there's just something holding on. Whenever I'm around him I feel safe. And the nice side of him, like the one that was there for me when I was crying about my parents or the one that punched Geo for me, is amazing. I just need to know his feelings toward me and I intend to find out tomorrow.
I walked home and did my nightly routine. Getting into bed and falling asleep was a breeze. This story is staring to get noticed which is very swag so thank you for all the reads😎
