I woke up with a huge smile on my face. The sun was beaming through my windows and birds were chirping cheerfully. Everything seemed right for once. I hopped out of bed and got dressed. I went downstairs while struggling to put my right shoe on. I finally shoved the converse onto my foot and headed towards the table. An apple and a note was left on it. I popped the apple in my mouth while I read the short note in my head. It said-
Good morning sweetie! You're dad and I had to make a quick run to you're aunts house to drop off a few things and we won't be back until tomorrow. We left a little money for you in case anything comes up. Have fun and be careful we love you!
I shrugged off the note and continued to eat my apple. Once I was finished with it, I threw the remains into my trash can while missing it completely. I made a mental reminder to pick it up later. I was still smiling as I walked out the house.
The group of all too familiar boys was waiting in the middle of the street outside my house per usual. I yelled out "hey" to all of them and they turned toward my direction. They all said "hey" back except Mattia. I was literally so confused. Not this again. He started walking to the sandlot without even giving me a glance. Did he just forget everything that happened yesterday. I ran up to him and tapped his back (which was turned away from me).Once I did that he turned around with a big smile on his face and spun me around in a hug. I was relieved and hugged him back. Mans really pranked me. He set me down and gave me a peck on the lips. I jumped on his back and he gave me a piggy back ride to the rest of the way to the sandlot.
The rest of the boys were cheering and clapping because they apparently have been "waiting for this".
Once we made it to the Sandlot we started hitting and catching like normal. The time change that recently happened made it so that it got darker later in the day. Which means we play longer. We liked this new change but it did make us more tired after we played all day. Anyways we continued playing until it got dark which was now like 7. We were about to walk away when we heard footsteps. I got scared and ran into the Sandlot but the boys stayed out there. I was peeking through the opening in the brick when I saw a group of girls pull up in front of them. I walked out of the Sandlot dusting off my shirt not looking suspicious at all you know.
"Ummm can we help you?" asked Mattia.
"You sure can cutie" the middle girl said with a wink.
They were all about our age and so i didn't really appreciate that comment she made towards him.
"We want to play with you guys here at the Sandlot from now on" one of the girls blurted out.
The boys started laughing and so did I.
"Ummm- Sorry only boys allowed" Alvaro spoke.
"Explains why that ones here" she pointed at me and all the girls started laughing.
I scoffed.
"She's an exception, you guys need to leave" Kairi demanded.
"Actually we don't. This place isn't yours, so we can play here no matter what you say" a really tall girl in the back said.
"Okay mount everest you and your barbies can play but try to stay out of our way" spat Ale.
We all started laughing.
"What are you laughing at princess" the middle girl stared me down.
"Obviously you and your pathetic friends. Sorry if you couldn't tell" I snarled.
The middle girl rolled her eyes as the boys and I walked away. Before leaving completely I turned back to them and stuck both my middle fingers up and yelled "suck it!".
The boys and I started running back to our houses and laughing. Once we made it back to the neighborhood we calmed our giggling down.
"Who the hell do they think they are just demanding shit like that" roshaun complained.
"I don't know but they'll probably be there tomorrow while we play so try to ignore them" said Robert.
Everyone agreed and started heading off saying a few good nights here and there. Mattia stayed to talk to me.
"Soooo" he spoke while grabbing my waist and pulling me closer, looking down at me.
"Yesss?" I whispered wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Are we officially a thing now?" he whispered back.
"Is this your way of asking me out?" I giggled.
He got down on one knee.
"Natalia Andrea Smalls" he began.
I starting laughing uncontrollably because that wasn't even my middle name.
"Will you do me the honor of being my official girlfriend" he questioned with a big smile.
I brought him to his feet and gently grabbed his face while pulling him in for a meaningful kiss. I released for a second.
"Does that answer your question?"
"I don't know maybe you should do it again" he teased.
We kissed one last time and I pulled away whispering "yes I would love to date you Mattia Gilbert Polibio." He hugged me and also started laughing because that wasn't his middle name either.
Once we let go we both walked away and into our houses yelling our goodbyes. I was extremely happy about what just happened and how I now have an official boyfriend. Mattia Polibio nonetheless. But something about those girls were off. I didn't like them at all. Apparently I can't have just one full day of happiness without something going wrong or someone ruining it. It doesn't matter though. Today was actually good I thought while getting ready for a shower. Today was good.
