I opened my eyes to the bright sun beaming down on my face. I groaned and shut my eyes refusing to get up. The suns beams were still somehow visible through my shut eyes. I rolled over not to happy about waking up today. I slammed my face into the pillow trying to shut out the slivers of brightness which were still showing. My mind soon filled with the events in which occurred yesterday. A throaty laugh left my mouth as I turned back over thinking about my fist making contact with Lexi's face.
I pushed my body in an upwards position, throwing my legs over the bed to shut my blinds. Once I did so, I turned on my light in my room allowing brightness to once again fill the once not-so light room. I stumbled around sitting in front of my mirror which sat on my white desk. I stretched out my elbows on my desk and laid my head out on my hands. I didn't want to think about what the boys had to say to me today but I did anyway. They would probably lecture me about how I shouldn't go around punching people but Lexi definitely deserved it. Not only was she throwing shade indirectly to me, she literally shoved me onto the floor causing me to bleed, and had to audacity to laugh. In what world am I supposed to just let that go? I just hope I never have to see her again.
After having a mini argument in my brain on weather i should even go to the sandlot today, I got up to get ready. I decided I wasn't going to let their opinions cloud my thoughts. I knew what I was doing yesterday and I don't regret a second of it.
I jogged down the stairs in my usual attire while grabbing a banana of the table. I peeled it and threw the peel into the trash can while eating the remains. My parents were asleep as they always are at this time so I just walked out of the house assuming they would know where I am.
I turned to the street I know all to well now, seeing the boys waiting for me. I walked to them casually and said "sup."
They all looked at me and said "heyyyy" with an unusual squeaky ending.
I gave them a suspicious look as if to ask what's wrong with you, before walking to Mattia.
"morning" I spoke in a normal tone looking at the collar of his shirt rather than his actual face.
"hey" he nearly whispered avoiding eye contact as well.I scoffed because they were all acting so weird. I ignored them and began walking to the Sandlot without them. They followed behind not speaking up the entire way. All I could hear was their continuous whispering of random things to each other behind me. I assumed they were about me so I looked back occasionally just to see them straighten up and act as if nothing was happening at all. I rolled my eyes and kept walking.
Soon we made it to the Sandlot. We threw the curtain over the fence and turned the corner.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me" I whispered angrily.
The one specific thing I didn't want to happen today or literally at all.
"Come back for more" I yell while smirking at Lexi and strutting in her direction.
She simply rolled her eyes while her little "possy" stood behind her not daring to speak unless told to do so.
"I wasn't even trying so don't hold it against me" she simply replied with obvious sass in her voice.
"My ass" I laughed.
She ignored my comment and just stood there in silence watching us.
"Are you actually dumb? We had a deal" I state.
I don't exactly know why I was acting like this or where any of it came from. Ever since the fight yesterday I have been extra annoyed recently and definitely more open on expressing my opinions.
"The deal was, and I quote 'if we win you guys stop playing at the sandlot'. We aren't here to play, just to watch" Lexi says while winking at Mattia.
I step in front of him. "Listen here princess, don't start acting brave or there will be a part two of what I showed you yesterday. Also if you couldn't tell, we don't enjoy your presence. But if you insist, I suggest you sit down, shut up, and stop flirting."
She was taken back, but nonetheless, sat down. Mattia was also shocked. He was biting down on both lips to hold down a chuckle that was on the verge of being released. He knew that I was jealous, and he wouldn't be wrong, I was. But I also knew he wouldn't go for Lexi anyways so I tried to push away all the jealously, remembering when he reassured me that no one would come between us.The day went on but it was anything except the normal game we play at the sandlot. We did play regular but we also usually didn't have an audience. Specifically one that was annoying and doesn't know when they aren't wanted. Despite what I clearly told her about flirting, she continued to sneak winks and snarky comments to Mattia here and there. She would cheer for him whenever he hit a ball or even through one. I wasn't about to let her have her way, so I let it be. Shoving all the comments I wanted to tell her into the back of my mind. I knew she wanted a reaction and that, I wasn't going to give her. I bite my tongue and stayed quiet every time she did something to test my patience.
Soon enough we called it a day. Thank god. I don't know how much longer I could stand the sight of Lexi constantly flirting and Mattia constantly rejecting her.
We all gathered up saying out goodbyes. I looked for Mattia to do the same, just to see Lexi getting all touchy with him. I calmed down and simply walked over to them.
"Hey babe, ready to go?" I asked not entirely focusing on him, making sure Lexi heard the second word. I flashed her a wide sarcastic smile in which she rolled her eyes to. Without letting Mattia respond, I grabbed his elbow wrapping my arm around it and walking away. I turned to wave goodbye to lexi with the same smug smile on my face.We made it to the neighborhood with barely any conversation going on between us on the way there. I sighed giving Mattia a kiss on the cheek and saying goodnight, beginning to walk away. He pulled me back by the arm and I crashed into his chest putting a hand up on it to stop my face from doing the same. I looked up at him waiting for him to say or do something.
"Are you okay?" he finally choked up.
"Never better" I respond.
He looked to the side and back to me, seemingly debating on weather he should say what he wanted to say next.
"You're not acting yourself" he flatly commented.
"I don't know what you're taking about" I lie.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. Whoever was saying those rude comments today was not you" he spoke his voice slowly rising.
I ripped my arms from his grip and stared him straight in the eyes, "The person" ,I said taking my two fingers on both hands and bending them twice when saying person, "out there was me. It was the me that stands up for herself and doesn't back down. It was the me that wasn't afraid to voice her own opinions."
"Smalls you know I didn't mean it like tha-"
"goodnight Mattia" I scoff, turning my back to him and waking into my house.I grab dinner which my parents had left on a plate for me and brought it up to the room. Setting the plate on my bed, I changed into comfortable bed attire. I crawled carefully into the bed making sure my food didn't spill and sat up against the bed rest. I leaned back looking at my ceiling, letting Mattias words sink in.
"You're not acting yourself."Was he right? I know that I'm acting different. There's no argument there. I just can't tell if It's for the worst. I'm being rude and can't seem to control my outbursts, but I'm voicing my opinions and I don't care what other people think. Is this how I really want to act? I closed my eyes letting out a frustrated blow. I ate my food in silence the same thoughts also eating at my head.
