Chapter Nine

Rose frantically looked around for something to stop Lily. She shook her head in desperation and started worrying. Her mind raced to the darkest depths it could go.

What if her soul was taken, she thought, what if mum and dad find out? What happens when they tell Aunt Ginny and Uncle Harry? What would I say? It would be my fault after all. I shouldn't have said that stuff.

Rose let out a noise that sounded like a faint whimper. She had no idea what to do. A tear streamed down her face as the dementor slowly moved towards Lily.

"Lily!" She screamed her name, then covered her mound immediately. She slammed her eyes shut as if the dementor could not see her if she could not see it.

Snape went into the hallway and his eyes widened.

"Lily Luna Potter! I may be dead, but that does not mean you do not listen to me," he sternly looked at her as the granddaughter of the love of his life and scolding her like his own, "And what nonsense is this? Finally getting to Hogwarts and getting yourself killed. You will not be made fun of here."

Lily narrowed her eyes, "You are not the boss of me, Severus. You could've told my parents what to do, but not me. Besides, as soon as we leave I'll be back where I was to begin with," she turned to Rose, "Tell my mum and dad I'm sorry, and say hello-and goodbye-to Aunt Hermione and Uncle Ron, would you?"

Lily smiled apologetically and turned back to the dementor. She nodded and steeped closer. Rose could feel the dementors intense hunger from the doorway and tried pulling Lily back.

"Lily, don't. I-I shouldn't have said those things, and I'm sorry. And yes, when we leave we might be in the muggle world with a crap load of troubles, but you might get into the Ministry," Rose choked out, "Come back her. Let's-let's just think things through, okay?"

Lily pushed her away, "I've already thought it through! I don't want this! I didn't belong in the muggle world, and I don't belong here," she looked down and let tears fall to the fresh stone floors, "Let me do this...please?"

Before Rose could protest, Lily yanked her arm away and walked closer to dementor again. They were so close, Lily could've reached her arm out and touched it.

Rose felt paralyzed by fear and could not do anything except cry, and Snape was in shock that Lily fought to die.

"Death is endless," Snape finally managed, "Boring, endless, and incredibly lonely."

Lily turned towards him and smiled even though her eyes were red and puffy, "Then let me join you. You won't be lonely if I'm here, right?"

"No," he admitted, "But I'd feel awful. Your father watched me die a slow death, he doesn't need you dying too, and especially not at Hogwarts."

Lily shrugged and went to take another step before loud sounds of rubber against stone filled the hall. All of them, except the dementor of course, turned to look.

"Scorpius," Rose shouted, "Stop her!"

Scorpius stood in front of Lily and pointed his wand at the dementor, "Expecto Patronum!"

The dementor fought the patronus Scorpius cast against it. After the dementor was gone, he turned to Lily who was on the ground crying her eyes out.

"I'm sorry," she murmured over and over again, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry."

Scorpius sunk to the ground next to her and wrapped his arm around her, "Come on. We don't need to get into anymore trouble."

They all went back to the dining hall with Severus trailing them.

Right before Lily, Rose, and Scorpius went to their dormitories, Rose stopped and held them back.

"If they put a protection spell against the entire school, how did a dementor get in?"

Lily and Scorpius looked at each other and shrugged.

"I didn't know they put up protection," Lily looked down.

"Neither did I," Scorpius looked at Rose, "Why are you thinking about it again, anyways?"

Rose shook her head, "I have since it happened. Mum told me they didn't want the Battle of Hogwarts to happen again, so they put up strong defenses."

They all looked at each other then looked out the window to the Dark Forest.
