Sitting around the crackling waves of yellows, oranges and reds was calming; watching the flames lapping up the night air; watching the wood as it split underneath the weightless, boiling ball. With the lingering scent of pungent smoke in the air, chatter of dozens of people arose. Flecks of light flew from the inferno, floating away into the inky abyss above.
The oblivious moon was bright and bold, illuminating the sky with a flush of pale light.
Sitting on my log around the fire, I smiled as happiness and chatter emitted from the people around me, I watched in awe as they conversed. These were my people now; they didn't belong to me, however I was responsible for their well-being and happiness. They would never come to any kind of harm and I would make sure of it.
A rush of uneasiness washed over me- it was that feeling again. Something was watching me.
"Alexis."
Shivers shattered around my body as I heard a whisper.
Looking around, I saw no one paying attention to me. Shaking off the worried feeling, my eyes returned to the dozens of pack members spread cheerily around the fire.
"Alexis."
Jumping again, my body immediately decided to investigate.
Standing up and observing my surroundings, something caught my eye.
I could see a dark shadow in the trees. It looked like it was watching me...
A sharp shiver slithered down my spine causing the hair on my arms to rise up like soldiers ready for battle.
I'm not a pussy but I'm also not stupid. Do I walk towards it?
"Alexis."
I felt like Harry Potter when the snake was speaking to him.
However, I oddly didn't feel very scared.
Peering around, I noticed that not a single person was affected by the voice. It was as if no one could hear it.
"Come to me."
Frowning, my feet involuntarily shuffled towards the figure. It reached out its shadow arm towards me, still very far away.
My ears could no longer comprehend the voices speaking behind me. It was almost as if I was in a trance.
I was further away now and a lot closer to the figure.
"It's coming."
Squinting, trying to figure out who it was, I replied, "What's coming?"
"Come with me before it kills you all."
"Before what attacks? Who are you?"
"It will kill you, my child. I can save you, Alexis."
The whisper became more urgent as the shadow figure spoke.
As my body got even closer, I realised it was wearing a black, shaggy robe with a hood, shielding it's face from my questioning gaze.
