"Humans," Caroline smiled warmly, her eyes gazing curiously upon the grinning flesh bags walking together in small groups down the sidewalk.

"You like humans?" I questioned as the car drove down the street.

"I think they're fascinating. They live and they die as themselves in a matter of what 100 years or less," she spoke, "we live and change and grow and can only really live until 200 sometimes even 300. Somehow our lives are never normal, my family's never was."

What does that mean?

"They are quite cool."

She chuckled, "cool. Now there's a word to describe them."

The car stopped as it reached a small parking lot and me and Caroline exited.

"This place feels different," I muttered as a strange chill ran through my body.

"It's the lack of supernatural, dear," Caroline laughed, "werewolves never come here or even vampires for that matter. We tend to stay far away from them."

"But why?" I asked.

"It's in our beliefs. We never mingle with humans just as they never mingle with us."

"We went to a club once; humans were everywhere in there."

"There are certain places where humans and werewolves mix together. It is frowned upon by some but at the end of the day why should it be?"

Nodding my head, we began to walk.

"Where are we off to?" I pondered.

"We're going to go for a coffee and you're going to meet an old friend of mine."

Around 20 minutes later, we were sitting in a small little cosy coffee and cake shop. The walls were a nice nature green with dark red booths. There were some tables and chairs scattered around the place near book shelves that littered the walls. The counter had wicker wood climbing up the sides; this place really felt like home.

The lights were dim keeping the subdued atmosphere calm and relaxing.

"Who's this 'friend' we're meeting?" I asked out of curiosity as the personable young waiter placed my tea and carrot cake in front of me.

"Thank you," I smiled, my eyes a shade lighter due to the overwhelming happiness of seeing my favourite cake placed in front of me.

He nodded cheerfully and walked away.

Suddenly, my entire body felt stiff. Every limb felt paralysed as if someone had me strapped down to my chair.

"Astrid my dear!" Called out Caroline, standing up to great a young and gorgeous woman.

She was radiant. Her flawless dark skin complimented the brightness of her soul piercing green eyes which were firmly trained on me.

Her cheekbones were high and her jawline was as sharp as a flint.

She embraced Caroline, all while keeping her eyes on my face.

"Who's this?" Asked Astrid, curiously.

For some reason I still couldn't move.

"This is Alexis," she introduced, her eyes travelling towards me.

"Caroline, I can't move," I managed to get out.

"Astrid, release her at once!"

Astrid blinked; suddenly my body felt loose and the feeling immediately returned to my limbs.

"You're a witch," I stated more than asked.

Astrid nodded, sitting down across from me, next to Caroline.
