Jaycey's POV

I stumbled as I got outside my small apartment, slamming the door shut before racing towards the diner where I worked as a waitress. The building was situated only a few blocks from where I lived but as always, I was late. After colliding with literally every human being on the sidewalk I gracelessly landed at my destination, out of breath.

"Again! You're late," Gregory, my extremely annoying boss bellowed as soon as his eyes fell on me, not even giving me a chance to take my well deserved breath. I blankly stared at him, trying to make my mind on what lies to tell this time and making a mental note to decide on my lies prior coming to work.

"I uhm my ---," I had absolutely no clue what I wanted to say, "--- a relative of mine caught some disease and I had to go see him at the hospital," I finally finished what I assumed was a reasonable excuse, scratching the back of my neck in the process.

"Are you trying to lose your job young lady?" he continued to yell, his hands swiftly moving to his hips and his eyes shooting daggers at mine. He looked like an ugly gorilla ready to tear my head off at any second.

I stared around, seeing that Gregory's tantrums, oops! scratch that since we were addressing each other formally, Mr Smith's tantrums had grabbed everyone's attention. Feeling slightly embarrassed, I cooed where I stood and mentally face palmed myself.

"I'm sorry Mr Smith, but I had to go. He's really sick and he could die any minute, I just --- "

"Oh shut up Jaycey, because if you don't then I might as well fire you. I mean why not?" I swear I wasn't in the mood for his unwelcome outburst but I listened to him continue regardless, "You seem to be getting too big for your shoes lately," he emphasised his last words.

I unconciously peeked at my feet to check if truly my shoes were getting smaller and I was getting too big for them. I know it was stupid but don't blame me, blame my mind. I was already feeling a huge lump in my throat, finding it hard to make up any words and so I just nodded to whatever Greg had said. I believe there was absolutely zero reasons for me to nod though.

"What are you still standing there for? Are you not supposed to be doing something, anything, why the hell did I even hire you?"

I stupidly blinked, turning around to see if people were still focused on us and damn right they were. Why do people always stick their nose in other people's business? I moved away from Gregory, making my way to the staff department. Maggie, my best friend, was already there eagerly waiting to tease me.

"Infamous Jaycey has other sick relative. Cheers to that!" she instantly laughed her lungs out whilst giving me a handshake as some sort of way to congratulate me for my achievement. I ignored her, pulling my hand away from hers and choosing to concentrate on changing into my work uniform.

"You're stupid, you are aware of that right? How can you tell the same lie you told last week and expect Greg to buy it?"

Shit! I had totally forgotten that I told that lie before.

"Can't you learn to shut up Maggie."

"I'm just reminding you babe," she gave me a weird grin.

"Well don't. Aren't you supposed to be working anyways?" I asked, making my way out of the room.

Maggie followed.

"You know that actually sounds ridiculous coming from you, " she broke out laughing again. I just rolled my eyes in response. Lately she always found everything funny and that wasn't funny at all.

As we came to sight, a woman signalled us, well atleast one of us to her table. I let out a sigh. I was honestly tired before I had even started working.
