Carly's POV
Calum and the guys left almost three months ago and graduation is approaching fast. I sit with Rose and her friends most days, but when I'm really missing Calum, I'll skip lunch and go to the library. I like to study, which I know, it's a weird thing, but it helps me calm down. I've been counting down the days till he gets here and they just seem to get longer and longer. I miss him so much, but I can't make him come home because that's his job and I'm just going to have to get used to it if I want to be with him. He tried to call me every night, but our schedules got all messy and now I'm lucky if I even get a text from him. I look through the library for a book to get my mind off stuff when I hear some girls starting to talk.
"I think that's her."
"Well go up and talk to her. Come on Elisabeth, don't be such a-"
"Okay, okay. I'll go." One of them starts walking towards me and I turn back to the book shelf and pretend like I wasn't listening to them. "Excuse me?" I look at the girl.
"Oh sorry, am I in your way?" I say as I move over.
"Oh no, I was just wondering if you're Carly Haze?"
"Uh, yeah? Why?"
"So it's true, you're dating Calum Hood from 5sos."
"Yeah. Him and I have been going out for a while now and-"
"Can you sign this for me?" She hands me a copy of one of their CD's and I take it.
"I have nothing to sign it with and plus, I don't think I should."
"Why not?"
"Well, I'm not one of them and um-" I look down at the CD and see both Michael and Calum's picture. I smile and run my finger over it. "I think it'd be best if you wait until they come back."
"They're coming back?" She asks.
"Yeah, in a few weeks. Now if you excuse me, I have some studying to do." I hand her back the CD and she walks back to her friend. I've never had something like that happen to me before and it made me even more anxious than I already am. Is that going to happen all the time? I shake the thought out of my head and continue to look for a book to read. When I finally find one, I sit down at one of the tables and start to read. I can't seem to focus though because all I can think about is my reaction to that girl coming up to me like that and what I did when she handed me the CD. I try to focus on what I'm reading, but it doesn't really help when Rose walks in and sits down. I look up and see that her mascara is running down her face. "What the hell happened?" I ask as I shut my book.
"My dad was stationed in the military and I just got off the phone with my mom and-and- he-" I lightly grab onto her arm.
"It's okay, just a take a few deep breaths." She does just that.
"He was moved to a more dangerous location." I feel my heart drop.
"Oh my god Rose. I had no idea."
"I don't tell a lot of people because I don't like talking about it because I'm scared that I'm going to lose him." She puts her hand over her mouth and starts to cry. I can't imagine what she's going through right now. My dad left, but I can still see him if I want. She collects herself and then begins to speak again. "I'm just really happy I get to be with Michael soon. I've missed him so much."
"I've missed him too." I see her face drop so I backtrack. "Sorry, I meant it as a friend. I miss him in a friend way."
"How much have you been thinking about Calum? Because Michael's all I've been think about for these past few months."
"He's on my mind all the time, but we're gonna get to see them soon."
"I just wish he could be here now. I could really use one of his hugs."
"His hugs are the best when you're sad."
"They really are. Well I'm going to let you get back to what you're doing because you seem busy." She goes to stand up, but I stop her.
"Wait, can I ask you something." She sits back down and nods her head. "Has anyone like come up to you and asked you to sign stuff?"
"There was a couple people yesterday, why?"
"Well it happened to me for the first time today and it kinda shook me up a little bit. It also made me think about Calum."
"How long has it been since you heard from him?"
"It's been a few weeks. He's really busy right now and I don't even know where he's at."
"They're wrapping up the US part of the tour right now. They'll be home soon."
"I know they will I just really miss him."
"I miss the guys too, but they'll be home before you know it." I smile and she stands up. "I'll talk to you later, okay?"
"Okay." She smiles and walks away. I go to open my book and that's when I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I quickly take it out and see that it's Calum. I press the green answer button and start talking. "Hey Cal. It's been awhile."
"I know it has and I want to say that I'm sorry about that. I wanted to call you so we can talk."
"Okay well, I'm at school right now, but I can talk later."
"Carly I can only talk right now. I have a full schedule tomorrow and I couldn't stop thinking about you."
"Okay, I'll just go out to my car."
"No it's okay, you can stay where you are."
"Okay, well what did you need to say?"
" I love you and it hurts me to be away from you and I know it's hurting you too. I have the chance to leave and I can if you-"
"Calum, I can't ask you to do that. I can't ask you to throw away the thing you've worked so hard for almost your whole life just for me. You'll be home in a few weeks and everything will be okay with us again."
"I know that, but one day I'll have to leave again."
"And we'll make it work like we did this time. Cal, I know that this has been something you and the guys have wanted to do for so long and I won't be the thing to stop you from doing it. I love you too much to get in the way of what you love."
"So what are you saying?" He asks.
"I'm just saying that if you feel like you have to pick between me and your job, chose your job because there will always be room for me somewhere because I'm willing to wait for you. It might hurt me to not have you around all the time, but it would hurt worse knowing that your miserable sitting behind a desk doing a job you hate. I want you to be happy and that's all that matters."
"I want you to be happy too. I didn't think that leaving would be this difficult."
"I didn't think so either, but we'll get through it."
"We always do." I smile. "Well I have to go because it's almost two in the morning here and I have a lot to do in the morning."
"Okay, I'll talk to you later?"
"Of course."
"I love you Cal."
"I love you too." He hangs up the phone and I take it away from my ear and start to collect my things. I put my phone in my bag and grab my ID card from my wallet so I can check out the book I never really got to read. As soon as I do that, I exit the library and head to the school parking lot. I'm really happy that my last class is a study hall period because it gives me time to look into the things I love and also study for the things I need to do. I get into my car and set my bag on the passenger seat. I grab my keys out of my pocket and start the car. It's crazy to think that just a few months ago I wasn't even able to get in my car without having a breakdown and now I'm driving again. It's funny how things can change in the matter
