Is there a shortcut to stay happy?

Carly's POV

Ever since Calum and I broke up, I've been trying to distract myself with school, but that's hard when we only have a few more days left. I try my hardest to avoid the guys and Rose at school because I can't face them. I can't sit there and know that I hurt someone who I care so deeply about and I can't sit there and watch him be mad at me, so I'm staying away. I'm going through my locker so I can see what needs to be thrown away and what I should keep for memories or something when I feel someone standing on the other side of the door. I grab the locker door and move it so I can see who it is.

"It's been awhile and you're avoiding everyone."

"I'm sorry. I'm just not ready to go back yet. I thought you'd be the one to understand Ash."

"I do, I just miss having my best friend around."

"Well Calum clearly still doesn't want me around."

"You don't know that. It's been two weeks since you guys last spoke to each other. I know that he misses you just as much as you miss him."

"You don't know that either Ash."

"He hasn't stopped talking about you. Everyday he tells me how much he misses you and wishes that things were different. He'd take you back in a heartbeat if you'd just talk to him."

"I don't know Ash. I-"

"Come to my party tonight. It's an early graduation party and I want you- no I expect you to be there. Come in a dress because it's slightly formal."

"Ash I-"

"Gotta go, see you tonight." He walks away and I follow him with my eyes as he leaves. I see him catch up to someone who I can only assume is Luke because of his hair. I look back at my locker and start doing what I was doing. After I clean the whole thing out, I shut my locker for the final time in my life. It's crazy to think that next year, I'll be in college starting my life, but I might be doing it alone. I shake the thought out of my head and start walking out of the building. I walk to my car and put the small box of things in the passenger seat. I walk over to the other side of my car and get in. I drive to my house and unlock the front door. I go up to my room and set the box down on my bed. I pull out my phone and see a text from Ash.

A: You better be getting ready

I roll my eyes before I send my reply.

C: Fine I'll go.
A: Oh I wasn't asking. I'm telling you that you're coming even if that means I have to drag you here myself.
C: Violent much?
A: Just get your ass ready.

I set my phone on my nightstand and walk over to my closet. I see my homecoming dress and it bring back a lot of really good memories. I keep looking until I find a really cute dress that I never really wear. I'm not really the type to wear dresses, but I do happen to have a lot of them.

I pair it with a nice pair of wedged heals and a bag. After I finish getting ready, I hear a knock at my door and then my mom comes in my room.

"Where are you headed off to?"

"A party thing at Ashton's house. He's making me go."

"I'm happy you're talking to the guys again."

"I'm only really talking Ash because he's the only who can stand to look at me." She walks closer to me and cups my face.

"Don't say stuff like that honey." I take her hands away from my face.

"Mom, it's true. Calum hasn't spoken to me or even noticed my existence for two weeks, Rose stopped coming to school for a while and then when she finally did, she acted like I was nothing, and Luke, he hasn't said a word to me in days. Ash's the only one who doesn't hate me for what I did."

"I'm sure that's not true."

"Well it doesn't matter. I'm gonna try and have fun tonight and hopefully fix some of the things I broke. I'll see you when I get home." I brush past her and walk out of my room. I'm really not looking forward to this.
