Carly's POV
After I leave the bathroom, I quickly look around for Calum. I search for what seems like forever until I finally find him I run up to him as he's walking into a building. I grab his arm and he turns around.
"Carly, hey." He says with a smile.
"Calum, I really have to talk to you. It's kinda-"
"Can it wait until dinner tonight?"
"No it really can't. Cal, I-"
"We have to go, it's starting." He pulls me into the gym and my mind starts racing. I have to tell him about Michael, but I know how much this is going to break his heart. I find my seat and my eyes start to scan the room. In a way, I'm lucky to have all my friends have last names so spaced out that we aren't near each other when we graduate.
I really don't need Michael telling people and then the news gets out to Calum. I have to be the one to tell him because it would hurt worse hearing it from another person who isn't me.
I take in a deep breath as the ceremony begins. My mind kinda blocks out everything that's being said and I know what you're thinking. A person is suposed to remember a moment like this, but that's hard when your mind is clouded by everything that's happened.
I snap back into reality when kids start getting called to get their diplomas. I hear Michael's name and a smile forms on my face as he walks across the stage. When we first started dating, he used to always tell me that he didn't see the poin of going to school, so he was wanting to drop out. He was waiting for a reason to continue, but it turns out that I was his reason.
Kids continue to get called up and I nervously wait to hear my name. After this moment, my life is going to change. I'm not sure if it's going to be a good or bad change, I just know that a change is going to inevitably happen. I hear my name get called and I stand up. I make my way across the stage and get a handshake from a few administrators and then handed my diploma. I smile and walk off the stage.
After the ceremony, I wait outside until I see Calum. I quickly run over to him and pull him to the side.
"We really need to talk, now." I say sternly. I see the look shift in his face.
"Okay, what's up?" He asks.
"I don't want to hurt you again, but I know that this will. I ran into Michael earlier, before all this happened, and he told me that he remembers me."
"H-he does?" I can tell that he's trying his best to hold back his sadness, but I can tell that this is breaking him.
"He does. I just want to tell you that-"
"I'm happy for you." He brushes past me and walks away. I stare blankly at the figure that's now becoming more and more distant.
I then feel a hand rest on my shoulder and I turn to see Michael standing there. I stare at him with the same blank expression I had when Calum walked away and I see a small smile begin to form on his lips.
"He'll be okay."
"I don't know Mike."
"I know him better than anyone, he will be okay." I turn my head, hoping to see him, but he's long gone. I look back at Micheal and he puts his arm around me and we begin to walk to my car.
I feel awful for hurting Calum, but when we started dating, I had lost almost all hope that Michael's memory was ever going to come back. There was a point where I had lost all hope that I was ever going to get him back so I started to suffocate myself in school work and friends just so I could stop thinking about him or about the life we shared.
I get into the driver's side of my car and go to turn the key when the crash comes back to my mind. I turn my head and look at Micheal who has a confused look washed over his face. "Are you okay?" He asks. I quickly put a smile on my face and look him in the eyes.
"Yeah, do you wanna drive?" I ask, trying to divert the situation.
"Why don't you?" He asks. My eyes shift back to the steering wheel, thinking of the last time I drove somewhere with him. I quickly get out of the car and feel panic starting to set in.
I hear his car door open and he quickly rushes over to me. He places both of his hands on my shoulders and that makes me look at his green eyes that I missed so much. "It's okay. I can drive if you want me to, it's not a big deal." I slowly nod my head and he walks me over to the passenger side of the car.
He gets into the driver's side and starts the car. We drive back to my place, somehow beating my mom home, and we go up to my room.
I toss my phone, and the car keys Michael handed me when we walked in, on the bed and wrap my arms around his neck. I smile before planting a kiss on his lips. We pull away, but he pulls me closer. "I will never get tired of kissing you."
"I won't either." I say with a smile. I go to kiss him again, but then my phone rings, causing me to groan in frustration. I take my arms away from Michael and pick up my phone, seeing Ashton's name flash on the screen. I answer the call and we begin talking.
"Hey, are you coming to this dinner? We were all suposed to ride together, but then you took off with Michael."
"I-I didn't know we were still doing this." I say nervously.
"If you want to come, then come. No one's forcing you."
"No it's okay. I'll be there soon." I hang up the phone and look back at Mike. "Looks like we have a dinner to go to." I say while pulling him into another kiss.
