The past is behind, learn from it. The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here, live it.

~Thomas S. Monson

I didn't sleep that night; all l could feel was Dan's lips moving gently against mine. Now that I'd experienced it, I couldn't forget it. I needed more. I was insatiable.

The next morning, I did the one thing I knew best; ran to my sister.

Whenever I entered Cassie's hospital room, Mum left, knowing that I'd want time alone to catch up without her overhearing.

I perched on the edge of her bed and took her hand in mine, like usual.

"Hey, Cass. How you feeling?"

"I'm feeling fine, what's wrong with you?"

I sighed and lay down fully, Cassie shuffling over to make room for me and then cuddling me close.

"Y'know we went out for Pj's birthday?"

"Mmhm..."

"Dan got drunk and...we kissed, and Lily caught us. I don't know what to do!"

Cassie started playing with my hair.

"Do you love him?"

"Of course!"

"He kissed you, so he must love you back. As long as you love each other, that's all that matters for the moment. The rest will sort itself out in time."

"That's the thing though," I muttered, "He was drunk. He didn't know what he was doing..."

"Listen, Phil, when you're drunk you let down your guard right?"

I nodded.

"So, Dan wanted to kiss you for a hella long time, but held back. Kissing you was just his subconscious doing what it wanted to. What it always wanted to do. Kiss you."

I considered this; her words made sense. But what about Lily?

I voiced my concern and she smoothed out my worry in no time.

"If she's a good person, she'll have nothing against you, only Dan. She'll be hurt, sure, but she'll get over it eventually. You need to stop worrying your little head over things that aren't worth worrying about. That's what I did, and look where I am. Being counseled and constantly watched in a hospital bed."

Cassie's sigh at the last part of her sentence was loud and irritated. She'd wanted to go home for days now, but they wanted to supervise her and make sure it wouldn't happen again. Mum had been staying with her to keep her company, but Cassie confided that she'd much rather it be me.

Mum bought me some tea, Cassie wished me luck, and I returned home to worry my sorry little head some more.
