Chapter 54 - Visit at the hospital

"Gareth ! That's my boy !" Logan said contently.

"This can't be happening..." Grizz thought.

At the moment he saw his father looking at him, Grizz felt as if he wasn't in his body anymore. He felt completely out of reality.

"Logan, my love !" Ellen exclaimed, running towards the bed.

"E...Ellen ?! I thought you were dead." Logan answered worriedly.

"I know, I'm so sorry for that, love. I had to disappear because of my job overseas but now I'm back, we can be a family again !" she said, kissing him.

"I...I can't believe you had us believe you were dead Ellen... Do you have any idea how it affected me ?!" Logan answered, pushing her away.

"Logan, love... I'm really sorry. I know I hurt you by going away like that."

"You didn't hurt me by leaving me, Ellen ! Had you just left because I wasn't a good husband, I could have took it. But I thought you were dead ! All this time, I thought you died because of our worthless son." he said, looking disgustingly at Grizz.

"Now, now, don't say such things, hun. I love you and I'm back, that's all that matters now." she smiled widely at her husband.

Grizz couldn't believe her. He had just learned that she of all people knew what had happened with his father and now that he was insulting him again, she didn't say anything. She didn't argue with Logan for calling him worthless or even for blaming him for her supposed death. She was okay with all that.

"She doesn't care about me one bit." he thought bitterly.

"No, Ellen ! It's not all fine just because you came back ! I almost died because of you ! I wouldn't be in this fucking hospital if it weren't for you !" he was getting really angry, standing up to yell at her face.

"Love, don't work yourself up like that. I said I'm sorry, what more can I say ? I can't take what happened back. But I'm so happy we're all here together again." she tried to soothe him.

Grizz knew his father's angry episodes all too well, nothing surprised him anymore. He was deeply shocked and hurt by the mere idea of his mother knowing what had happened and doing nothing to prevent it, but she was still his mother and he couldn't let her get hurt by his dad.

"Well, you know what ?! I don't want to be with you anymore ! You can't pretend to be dead for decades and suddenly reappear and ask me to welcome you like that ! You fucking whore, I can't believe I was ready to give up my life because of my love for you ! You don't deserve any !" he shouted at her more and more threateningly.

"Don't talk to me like that, Logan ! I'm not Grizz, I'm not just gonna stand there and let you insult me. Do you think I had a choice ?! You really think I had it easy all this time away from my family ?!" she snapped back at him.

"I don't fucking care, Ellen !"

"Well maybe you should try caring about anyone other than yourself for once ! Then you'd understand that leaving my asshole of a husband wasn't that hard in the end !" she yelled.

Logan lost it when she said he was an asshole. He lifted his right arm, decided to make her learn her lesson. But he hadn't seen Grizz putting himself in front of her, protecting her. He slapped his son in the face really hard. But Grizz wasn't the fragile eleven years old boy he once was and just took the slap silently. In the past, he would have fell to the floor because of the strengh of the blow. But he didn't. He just looked back at his father.

"I put up with your shit for a really long time, dad. I don't care about you hitting me anymore. But don't you dare raise your hand on mom." Grizz said coldly.
