It was dark at dawn, the trees were looming over me, the ground was slippery.
I had heard gunshots in the distance.
I stumbled as I ran, tripping over the roots of the trees, pushing through from under the ground.
I was panting hard and my legs were...
I stood there, looking around myself trying to figure out where I was. I turned around and saw that the door I had walked through was still there but also wasn't...?
I took a step back, going back to the spot where I was before I opened the door and realised I was back in the hallway where I had just come from.
Confused, I took a step forward and into the field once again. I walked a bit away from the door and turned around but I saw... nothing?
What is going on? I thought to myself.
I retraced my steps going back to the same spot. The door was still there. Just that it wasn't visible.
Damn, this is trippy as hell.
I tried to look for something to mark the spot so I can find the door later but I couldn't find anything. So, I just picked up a little twig which was just lying around and drew an 'X' right in front of it.
Suddenly, I heard something moving in the bushes. I snapped my head to look in the direction of the sound. There was nothing there...
I heard it again and turned around at the speed of light, the twig in my hand ready to stab whatever was there, if it tried to attack me.
Then, I heard a soft whimper. Cautiously, I moved toward the source of sound, the twig still in my hand. I leaned over the bushes slightly and saw that there was a wolf. It had its eyes closed. It's sleeping, I thought. It looked really cute, curled up into a little ball of fluff, but then something caught my attention. There were tears on its fur, in addition to it's whimpers.
Was it having a nightmare? Do animals even have nightmares? I was very confused but I did the first thing I could think of, I started stroking it's fur. It looked smooth and was soft to touch. I caressed it's ears in a barely there touch and attempted to wipe the tears that were still on its fur.
It slowly opened it's eyes which were a beautiful chestnut brown and looked up at me. It got up and walked around me, my hand sliding along it's body in a soft and delicate touch. It then came and stood right in front of me, face to face, it's nose touching mine as I was sitting on the ground. I raised a hand and gently caressed it's face. It closed it's eyes again and leaned into the touch, lifting one paw and placing it on my thigh.
