Your brows knit as your slumber is rudely interrupted by a slight weight on your stomach, a small grumble rumbling in your throat as you attempt to roll over and avoid the day but the new weight prevents you from doing this so begrudgingly, you open your tired eyes.
The first thing you see is a blurry blue blob, the sight causing you to squeeze yours eyes shut before opening them once again, allow yourself to adjust to the light somewhat. Of course the blue turns out to be a button-up shirt that Sabo has chosen to wear today, the blonde beaming down at you with his hand still rested on your tummy.
"You're awake! How's your foot today?"
"Negh...Go away..." Admittedly you're much too tired to say anything else, your toe was hurting all night long and the painkillers could only do so much to help, that on top of the fact that you couldn't get comfortable kept you awake until 5am and it is now only 9am, meaning that you've had no more than 4 hours sleep so you're not at all in the mood for cute ghosts right now.
"C'mon, I made you breakfast~!" The handsome blonde chimes energetically, completely ignoring your grumpiness as he sets a tray full of food down beside you on the bed. "I was making you bacon sandwiches but the bacon smelt so good I ate it, so you now have pancakes instead~!"
He ate the breakfast he was going to give me..? What a little shit.
With a sigh you begin to try sitting up in the bed, your bones clicking with each movement and half-tempting you to just give up this little task and go back to sleep, though when Sabo begins to help you sit up, you wager that wouldn't be possible.
"I didn't know if you liked syrup or anything on them so I bought a bit of everything, even mayonnaise, just in case you've got some different tastes!"
"Thanks...?"
People eat mayonnaise on their pancakes? How would that taste?
Taking the food from the tray, you pour on your preferred toppings before digging into the meal, the cutie wearing a smile as he gestures to the drink accompanying the breakfast. "I mixed your pain medication in here by the way, since you said the pills tasted weird last night. According to your phone, crushing these capsules won't have any negative effects on you."
According to my phone?
"You went through my phone?"
"No, I just used your google."
Oh, I see.
It only takes you mere minutes to polish your plate, your tongue instinctively running along your lips as you reach for your drink afterwards, gulping down the liquid as quickly as possible in attempts to avoid tasting the wretched pills but thankfully, Sabo's idea seems to work. If it weren't for the grit you'd feel brushing against the back of your throat here and there, you'd never have known there was anything else mixed into the refreshment.
"Was it good?" The blonde questions, earning himself a content of nod of your head as you place the empty glass and plate back on the tray before pushing it aside, resting yourself back against the headboard of your bed as your eyes meet your ghostly friend's. "Now that you've eaten and woken up a little, I'll ask again. How's your foot feeling today?"
The question draws a somewhat guilty smile to your lips as you recall your response last time he asked, muttering a quiet "Sorry." under your breath, which just makes the blonde chuckle, it would seem he never took your grumpiness personally at least. "It still hurts but I suppose that's my karma for being so rude to you, huh?"
"Heh, maybe!" The happy-go-lucky boy doesn't hold your stare as he giggles these words though, his attention trailing down to your foot instead, somehow managing to spot the limb despite the fact that it's hidden under your duvet. "Here, let me help."
Naturally you only wince as you see his hand reach for your foot. "N-No, don't touch it! Please!" the boy's palm stops just above the injury at that, his careless smile still very present on his face as a warmth spreads throughout your wounded limb, it's gentle and soothing and reminds you of how it felt when your father held your hand back when you were just a little girl.
"I don't need to touch you, don't worry." Sabo adds softly as his stare flickers back to your own, his forehead gently resting against yours and managing to spread the comforting feeling through your entire body. "Have you ever been sick or depressed then suddenly felt this warmth? It's people from the other side trying to comfort you, as I'm doing right now."
His words bring an influx of memories to your mind; when your mother left, when there was a drought in Vegas and you got bad heatstroke, when your first boyfriend broke up with you because he liked someone else - these were all times where you'd fall into sickness or depression and sometimes feel a warmth enveloping you, as if you were receiving a hug from an invisible force.
You had always just assumed it was you feeling sorry for yourself but...
Could it have really been somebody from the afterlife trying to support me?
"Would I lie to you?" The boy quizzes playfully, finally retracting his hand and pulling away from your face, it's now that the pain seems to be much more bearable; almost nonexistent. "There, just don't get too confident, moving around too much will make the pain come back."
"I see. Thank you, Sabo..."
He really is a kind man.
"Heh, it was my pleasure!" He chimes whilst taking the tray in his hands, making his way back toward your bedroom door. "Leave some space beside you then we can watch some TV in bed for today~!"
A lazy day in bed? Isn't that what couples do?
"Friends do it too, ya know!"
"Stop listening to my thoughts!"
