(This chapter is focused on Germany)
It was a particularly warm morning. The moon had dipped below the horizon about an hour ago, and the sun was already beaming. It was early in September, but it felt more like A cool summer than an early fall. A gentle breeze carried the sweet melodies of songbirds and drowsy crickets through the morning air. Distant honking could be heard from the woods behind Germany's house.
Germany opened his eyes. He checked the time: 7:00 AM. He grumbled to himself sleepily and sat up. It had been another restless night. He had only gotten an hour of sleep. That was 1 hour of energy he needed to make last for the whole day. Germany rubbed his eyes and picked his glasses up off of his nightstand, trying to remember what day it was. He was jolted awake when he remembered: Today was his first day at a new school. Yawning, he stood up in his t-shirt and pajama shorts and headed towards his closet.
Picking out a decent dress shirt and dress pants, Germany got dressed in a slow haste. He rolled up his socks and slipped on some comfortable but formal shoes. He looked at the mirror on his wall to make sure he looked presentable. He rolled up his sleeves to do his hair. He combed small amounts of gel into his hair to make it look just right. He headed to the bathroom to brush his teeth. As he spit out his toothpaste, he caught a glimpse of his unnaturally sharp canines in his reflection. He took a step back and made sure everything was still in good shape. Seeing the shame on his left arm, he quickly rolled his sleeves back down. Germany let out a long sigh just as his father pounded angrily on his bathroom door.
"HURRY YOUR ASS UP, GERMANY!" he screamed.
Third Reich's screaming always scared Germany. He was never a person who liked loud noises, let alone getting yelled at. Germany grabed his backpack from his room and ran downstairs. He liked to be well-prepared, so everything he needed for the school year-binder, pencils, notebooks, etc.-had all been packed prior to today.
"Es tut mir leid, Vater.." he said.
Reich let out a low growl before raising his hand and striking his son across the face. Germany let out a small whimper and held his reddening cheek in his hand. Reich smiled at him before turning away.
"You're walking to school; I don't have time to drive you there. You'll also be walking home."
Reich left, leaving his red-cheeked son alone. Luckily for Germany, the school wasn't a far walk. Germany fixed the glasses on his face and sighed. He opened his front door and closed it behind him. School kind of sucked, but at least he could get away from his father for a while.
Germany walked to school by himself for mos of the way. He had never been to a public school, so he knew almost no one there. He had always been to a boarding school and never really talked to anyone. He did make one friend, however, after school. They hung out for a while, but Germany's father had kept them from seeing each other.
As Germany approached the large building, he eyed a vaguely familiar country walking on the sidewalk. The country was square-headed with 2 blue stripes running all the way around. He walked slightly faster to catch up to them. He gently tapped them on the shoulder.
"Hello, Isreal!" Germany said.
Isreal looked at him in confusion, and for a fleeting moment Germany thought that he didn't remember him. After a moment, however, Israel gasped and his face lit up.
"Germany..is that really you?"
"Yes!"
Israel wrapped his arms around Germany's neck.
"It's been so long, old friend!"
Smiling, Israel stepped back. The confusion returned to his face.
"I..thought you took a different route to the boarding school."
"My father is sending me to your school now."
"Really? That's so cool! We can hang out now!"
"Yeah!"
Germany and Israel caught up while they walked to school. Both were slightly late for school, which was okay because Germany was new and Israel was helping him get his stuff in his locker. They had the same class right now-science.
"Remember, just relax. Everything will be fine. You're gonna introduce yourself to the class. Be honest, and don't panic."
As stupid as it sounded, it actually made Germany feel a lot better. He was really shy, but having a friend there was nice. Gemany took a deep breath before entering the classroom. It looked like your average science class, besides the fact it had posters of frogs EVERYWHERE.
The teacher stood up from her desk and came to the front of the room. She cleared her throat to get everyone's attention.
"Okay class. Today we have a new student. He will come and introduce himself."
The teacher beckoned Germany with her hand. He lingered in his spot for a moment before stepping forward. She smiled warmly at him as he walked up to the front nervously. He turned to face the class but kept his eyes low.
" H-Hello.." He stuttered. "M-my name is Germany, and I like to read, write, and d-draw."
Germany could feel his face getting hot. Fortunately he was not prompted to speak any more, and the teacher let him take a seat by Israel. He could feel every pair of eyes in the class on him. Israel rubbed his back gently. All Germany wanted to do was slam his awkward face into the table. When the class was over, Germany walked down the halls with his eyes on the ground. This always confused Israel; how could he see what was ahead of him?
All of Germany's classes consisted of him having to introduce himself. He continued to be nervous each time.
Lunch came later than Germany thought it would. Germany got out of his class and was walking down the hallway when he crashed into someone. He could feel his panic rising. This country was noticeably taller than he was. Was he going to get beaten to a pulp?
"I-I'm sorry!" He said rather awkwardly.
"It's fine!" The taller country said. "Say, aren't you the-"
" I have to go now!"
Germany speed walked towards his locker, grabbed his lunch and hurried off to the cafeteria to meet Israel. The last thing he remembered seeing in the hallway was the taller country look at his locker number and pull out his phone.
( Hope you enjoyed the first chapter! This is my first time ever writing a fanfic. I plan to make more art for this book, so look out for that! )
