(Poland's POV)
Poland waited patiently with Czech outside of the hospital room. It had been a while since they had been able to visit Phil. They had found him lying on the grass in the deep woods. How this came to happen, Poland wasn't sure, but she had a fairly good idea.
America had warned them what would happen if they chose to betray their group. Poland assumed that someone would end up vrry hurt. She figured that this is what had happened to Phil. However, it hadn't been America who had hurt Phil. America was clever, but he was also lazy. He didn't have the time or energy to go out and carry out consequences.
That was China's job.
China had hurt Phil.
Poland shuddered. She remembered how Phil's leg had been grotesquely been contorted every which way. Poland didn't know that someone could do that to someone else. It made her sick to the stomach.
What was worse was that Czech had to see it. There was his best friend, laying deadly still on the grass, his leg awfully contorted and his face beaten to a pulp. Poland could barely imagine his pain.
Maybe that was why he had bought the bear.
Czech had gone out to who-knows-where and bought the bear. Phil really loved his stuffed animals, and Poland it was a great "feel better" gift. It was a rich, chocolatey brown with a lighter muzzle, belly, and front paws. Its face was sewn into a kind of sleep and annoyed expression. Its tail was adorably oversized. Poland must have been staring at it, because Czech looked over at her with a half-smile on his face.
" I figured he would like it.." He said. " He does love his stuffies."
" I agree!" Poland replied. " I think it would make the perfect gift for him!"
Czech looked down at the floor for a moment. He fell silent.
" It's more than just a gift," he said quietly. " It's my apology."
"Apology? For what?"
Czech looked up at Poland. There were tears running down his face.
" I should have taken better care of him. I should have been with him when China said he "needed him". If I had been there, he wouldn't have gotten hurt."
Czech sniffed and wiped his tears away. Poland felt bad for him. He was tough, but he had a sweet spot for Phil. He was almost overprotective; he wanted to be where Phil was. The fact that he hadn't been there and that Phil had ended up hurt hit him like a bullet.
Poland reached over and rubbed his back. He didn't react. Poland desperately wished she could help him more. The pain in his eyes was getting to be too much for her.
A few minutes later, Sweden came out of Phil's hospital room. He worked at the hospital as an assistant. He did some medical work, but his main focus was around keeping the patients and loved ones of the patients happy.
" H-how is he?" Czech asked immediately.
" He's alright, but.."
Poland eagerly listened for the rest of the answer.
" He's in a lot of pain. And he's nervous. His leg was so badly broken that it needs to be operated on."
" Can we see him?" Czech asked hopefully.
" Yes, you may. Just don't made him too nervous."
Poland followed Czech into the room. It smelled a lot like cinnamon, which was unusual for a hospital room. She remembered that Phil had a thing for cinnamon things. Sweden must have sprayed cinnamon-scented air freshener in his room to make him more comfortable.
Phil was asleep when Poland and Czech reached his bedside. He looked so peaceful when he slept. He didn't have to think about America's plan or his surgery while he was asleep. Czech reached to touch his face, but his eyes fluttered open before he did.
" Czech..?" He said softly to his friend. " Is that you..?"
" Yes, it's me, buddy. How ya doing?"
" Okay, I guess. I'm a little nervous about my leg surgery though."
Poland saw that Czech had started to cry again.
" Why are you crying, Czech?" Phil asked kindly.
" I- I wish I could have been there to protect you..."
Czech sniffed and wiped his face.
" Don't cry, Czech. I'll be okay."
" H-here, I brought you this."
Czech handed Phil the bear.
" He's so cute..thank you so much!"
Phil smiled. Czech tried his best to smile back. Poland decided to stay quiet. This was their moment.

Poland and Czech were left in the room. They had taken Phil to get his surgery. The two sat in the silence of Phil's hospital room. Czech suddenly growled. Poland looked over to see that his teeth were gritted.
" I'm not going to let him get hurt again," he snarled. " Nobody is going to get hurt because of America's plan."
" You mean, you're-" Poland began.
" Yes," Czech replied, cutting her off. "I don't care if he and China come after me."
"I'm not going to part of this plan anymore."

Somehow, the italic kind of stopped, and I can't fix it at the moment. It will be fixed later, I swear)
