(Germany's POV)

Germany peered at himself in the mirror. He cleared the hair that had draped over his face out of his eyes. He had to squint in the bright bathroom light to see; he hadn't bothered to grab his glasses before he went. He looked at his reflection and gasped in fright; it was exactly what he was afraid of. There was a long bruise over his right eye, still visible from the night before.

He had forgotten to do the dishes before he left for school. Unfortunately for him, his father had gotten home before he did. Reich had been drunk and outraged.

" Lazy bastard!" Reich had screamed before pulling off his belt. "Can't you do something right for once?"

Germany shuddered. There was no way he was going to be able to hide it. He didn't want to worry his friends, but covering of up was out of the question. Germany silently hoped that his glasses would hide it well enough.

Walking out of his bathroom, Germany made his way to the closet. October had just begun, and it was going to be chili outside today.Germany chose a pastel-colored hoodie and sweats. He didn't mind looking formal as much today; whatever had long sleeves was fine.

He carefully headed downstairs. He wanted to de quiet in case his father was still awake. He looked around the living room. Reich was on the ground. He had passed out from his drunkenness. Germany guessed that he wouldn't be awake for a little bit-long enough for him to go to school without being disturbed. He grabbed his breakfast and backpack before leaving.

When Germnay got to Israel's house, Israel was on he porch. He was wide awake, but there was something off about him. As Germany approached, Israel barely knew he was there. He was staring into the abyss. His eyes were clouded with thoughts, maybe sadness. He had no idea what happened, but he hated seeing his friend like his.

"Israel?" Germany said softly. He received no reponse.

" A-Are you okay? Is there something wrong?" He gently tapped Israel on the shoulder.  This snapped him out of his trance.

" Oh, w-what?" Israel said, slightly startled.

"Are you okay?"

" Yeah, I'm fine. It's just...."

" What?"

"... I'm just a little worried about Belgium. I'm not sure who she fought with the other day, but I don't want her to get hurt again."

" I understand. Remember, Belgium is tough. She could beat the crap out of anybody! But.... I get why you're concerned. Just be sure to keep an eye on her. Be sure that you're with her if you can be. Then, if anyone tries to mess around, at least you two will have each other's backs.

" Yeah, I guess you're right. She is pretty tough..."

Germany and Israel smiled at each other. Germany wanted to be sure that Russia was okay, too. He hadn't been physically hurt, but...whatever China sad had caused him to have a breakdown. Germany wasn't going to let that happen again.

Not on his watch.

When Germany and Israel got to school, everyone else was there. This was good, because now they could all spend a little extra time together. Japan, South, and Belgium were all sitting at the table, but Germany couldn't find Russia. He felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Belgium, and she beckoned him away from the others.

" What is it, Belgium?" Germany asked, slightly worried.

" Russia needs you," Belgium said quietly. " He's going to be here in a minute."

" W-what do you mean he needs me?"

" He's been crying."

Germany was slightly shocked. That was why he wasn't there. He must've still been upset about what China said about him. Germany felt a pang of guilt. He hadn't texted Russia yesterday and asked about him.

As Belgium said, Russia came to the table a minute or so later. Germany got up to go and say hello.

"H-hey, Russ," Germany said quietly.

" Hey.." Russia replied just as softly. Germany could tell by the tone of his voice and the way it cracked that Belgium was right.

He had been crying.

Germany reached for Russia's hand and grabbed them. He held them and squeezed them. Russia gently squeezed back, then pulled Germany into a hug.

" I'm sorry, I meant to text you yesterday, " Germany said apologetically.

" It's okay," Russia mumbled. Germany rubbed his back and gently kissed his cheek.

" If you ever need anything, just tell me okay? I'm here."

" Thanks.."

Germany broke their embrace but continued to sneeze Russia's hands. Russia looked up at him and smiled. His eyes were still red and puffy. Germany then got an idea.

Crouching down, Germany slipped himself into Russia's coat with Russia. He then stood on his toes and kissed him.He heard Russia giggle softly. Germany smiled; it was working.

" You're so crazy," Russia said to him.

" Me? Look who's talking!" Germany said back. Russia's giggles then turned into laughs. Germany wrapped his arms around Russia. Russia ran his fingers gently through his hair. Germany purred softly.

" What are you, a cat?" Russia said jokingly.

Something clicked in Germany's head.

" I want to show you something," Germany said. He slipped back out of Russia's coat and walked over to the table to get his backpack. He carefully pulled out his sketchbook and flipped to the cat drawing. He gently ripped the page along the preferrated line. He then walked back over to Russia.

" Here, I drew this for you a little while back. I-I wasn't sure if you were going to like it, but.."

Germany handed the cat drawing to Russia.

" It's so cute..." Russia said quietly. " I absolutely love it!"

Russia pulled his backpack off and cautiously slipped it into a folder.

" Thank you so much!" Russia said, pecking Germany on the lips. Germany smiled; he was just happy that Russia was happy.

Germany walked with Russia over to their table. He looked for Israel, who was playing Battleship with Belgium. The sadness and worry had left his eyes, and he seemed to be more relaxed than he was earlier. He sunk Belgium's last ship, to which she responded with a semi-triggered "FUCK!"

Russia went over and joked around with Japan. Meanwhile, Germany sort of just looked around at everything and everyone inside. In the distance, he could see there were a couple countries lingering near the cafeteria bathrooms.

One of them he recognized as China.

Germany's stomach churned. He could feel a subtle anger rising inside of him. He gripped the chair he was sitting in tighter.

That jerk was the one who hurt Russia!

Germany could barely think straight. How could anyone say such horrible things to someone simply because of their grades? Before Germany could even think about it much, his heart had made up its mind.

That country was going to pay.

(Hope you enjoyed the chapter! I was honestly not completely sure what to write for this chapter. Sometimes I know what to write for the chapter after, but not the one before.

A quick heads up: The next chapter will be a time jump fro  the morning to after school. I wanted to get that out of the way so no one is confused!)
