(This chapter is from Russia's POV)
Russia typed the short country's locker number into his phone. He turned his phone off and didn't really realize what he had done until he was at the school doors to the outside.
What the heck? He thought to himself. I just got the locker number for a boy I don't even know! How creepy is that?
Russia sighed before opening the cafeteria doors and walking outside.
I'm not sure why, but I have know who that guy is.
Russia heard his name from above him. It was Japan. She had been waiting for him in their usual spot on the roof. She was his best friend, and they hung out outside all the time. Russia was semi-popular, and it was hard to get around without being crowded by admirers. Getting outside, even for half an hour, offered an escape from the chaos that was the rest of the school. There was a ladder propped up on a pillar. The staff didn't bother removing it after construction. It was just tall enough to reach the lowest part of the school's roof. Russia flung his lunch up to the roof ahead of him before climbing up himself. Japan was swishing her tail impatiently.
"Where were you, sir?" She said in a mockingly annoyed voice.
" Sorry, I didn't know I was late. I ran into the new kid while I was on my way here."
"You mean the one that started today?"
"Yeah."
Russia ate the sandwich he had made for himself.
" I dunno, Japan. There's something different about him..I don't know what. Something about him makes me want to get to know him.."
Japan gave Russia a mischievous smile.
"Ooooh, that sounds like love at first sight to me!" She giggled.
" Shut up! I don't even know his name! It's not love, it's...well..I don't know what it is. It's just something."
Russia turned his head away from Japan for a moment. Memories of him and his ex, America, flashed through his mind. Russia had found that America had gone off to sleep with China week's ago. He was heartbroken when he found out. It made him wonder if America ever actually liked him. Sure, he had begged for them to stay together, but Russia wasn't having it. Did he really feel the same about the new kid as he had once felt for his ex?
He was snapped back to reality by Japan rubbing his shoulder. She gave him a comforting smile, which was enough to make him feel better. At least he still had friends.
" I got his locker number", he said suddenly.
" That's creepy!" Japan exclaimed. " Russia, are you really sure you don't like this boy?"
Russia felt his cheeks turn red.
"Well-"
"HA! I knew it!"
"Shhh! We don't need the entire world to know!"
Japan giggled again before settling down a bit.
"So, what are you gonna do?"
Russia thought about this for a moment. He wanted to get to know the guy, but he didn't know how to greet him. He was so used to people coming up to him that he didn't know how to approach anyone himself.
" I think I'll say hello to him tomorrow. Then we're at least introduced to each other."
"Sounds like a good idea. Just be sure you don't scare him!" Japan said teasingly. "Also, see what classes you have with him and write them down."
Russia nodded. He heard the faint sound of a school bell coming from inside. That was their cue to go back inside. Russia let Japan climb down before him, and they both walked back inside.

For the rest of the day, Russia payed little attention to his teachers and what they were saying. His mind was focused on the kid he had ran into. But why? He didn't actually have feelings for him..did he? Russia found that for the second part of the day, he had the country in 3 out of the 4 afternoon classes he was in- Math, Reading, Art, and History. For Reading and Math, the country sat across the room from where he was. But in Art, he sat close enough to where Russia could study his features a bit more. He had this shy look on his face and kept his nearly pupil-less eyes low. He wore semi-formal clothing, which was interesting considering that they were in school and not in an office building.
At one point, he saw the smaller country push his glasses up his face, and Russia felt butterflies come to life in his stomach. He tried his best to keep himself from blushing. He looked down at his planner. Without thinking too much, he flipped to an empty page and doodled the country. Russia didn't like art very much and was definitely not good at it. Somehow, his sketch didn't turn out looking like absolute garbage. He wondered if the other country liked to draw or was good at it. He was almost dying to know, but he needed an excuses he could get a glimpse. He asked the teacher to sharpen his pencil. With her permission, he got up, sharpened his pencil, and peered at the small county's drawing as subtly as possible. He had drawn a beautifully detailed bird of some sort. Russia smiled to himself and was impressed.
He found out that he didn't have the last class of the day with the small guy. He was slightly disappointed, but he shook it off. At least he had Japan.
"Sooo, what did you get? Anything about your crush?" Japan asked with a naughty wink.
" He's NOT my crush.. anyways, I have 3 classes with him in the afternoon. And...he's a really good artist."
"Ooh! How cool!"
The entire class finished their work early. Since the teacher didn't have any more work for them, he allowed them to have a bit of free time to mingle. Russia and Japan got up from their desks and moved to a corner in the back.
" Ack!" Russia yelled suddenly. " Japan..what if I really do have feelings for him?"
Japan smirked before responding.
" Everything will be fine, I promise! As long as you don't screw anything up, you guys will at least be friends!"
"Yeah, you're right."
"Just be confident in yourself. Would you like me to be there when you go talk to him? Like, I could be somewhere in the background for support."
"Yeah that'd be great! If anything hits the fan, you'll be there!"
"Exactly."
Russia let out a sigh of relief. He could feel his confidence coming back. He was Russia. If anyone could befriend anyone, it would be him. All he had to do was make sure not to be too intimidating, and everything should work out!
The end of the day came, and everyone left for home. Russia liked to walk home with Japan, so they got their stuff and left together. It was a quiet walk; there wasn't much noise besides the occasional bird. When they reached Japan's house, Russia waved goodbye to her before heading home.
Tomorrow, he was going to befriend the new guy.
( Hope you all enjoy the 2nd Chapter! I am personally really excited to be writing it! I plan to go back in and proofread this chapter like I did 1st one. Speaking of, I did add art to that chapter, so if you would like to see it, you can take a look! I almost always do art after the chapters are done, so you may want to go back a chapter if you'd like to see it.)
