Swarnima could not understand Abhedya's question.
"Let me reframe. What about US? Is there a US? We have just met after ages and do not even know each other properly, now!. I mean everyday I get to know something new about you. You, obviously have 'all' the information about me."Swarnima cut Abhedya and asked, "what do you want to say, exactly? Please come straight to the point. Nivi, must be waiting for me."
Abhedya said, "fine! Madam tutor! Please finish your class. I am obviously available 24/7 at your service."
"Why do you get angry on small things and what's with so much sarcasm?" Swarnima was not liking his tone.
"I was all okay till you came. You have messed up my brain and my life. I say something, I mean something and do something." A memory flashed Abhedya's mind. He felt a strong déjà vu.
Swarnima smiled. It was only some hours before Abhedya's drunken self had confessed the same to her, in a softer tone ofcourse."What makes you smile? Wait a minute! I was drunk last night and... did I say the same thing?" Abhedya guessed the reason behind Swarnima's smile and his memory.
"Yes you did." Swarnima kept her reply short and headed to her room.
Swarnima turned on her laptop and started with her classes. Nivi was in no mood of studying and was behaving like a love sick puppy.
After about an hour and a half Swarnima came out of her room. Abhedya was working on his laptop and his books were all over the couch. He looked absolutely gorgeous. The way his fingers typed, the way he put his pen in his mouth when he was not writing was oh! So! alluring. Swarnima mentally slapped herself and went to make some coffee.
She put the coffee mug in front of Abhedya.
"Thanks! Sit I want to talk to you!"Swarnima sat with her coffee and Abhedya took a deep breath and explained, "look I'd like to make myself clear. I have yet not decided whether I would...we would...we could, be 'friends' again. I find you really weird, honestly. The circumstances you and I have grown up are very different. Our ideologies do not match.
I am a very normal, easy going boy. You, are this 'oh! Miss always right!!' Kinda girl and I want you to behave normally. You don't even stand for yourself. To be true, your this calm and composed self is really irritating. It was more fun when you were 'normal' and 'natural'. Unlike now, you are not yourself anymore.
So, let me come 'straight to the point' , like you, like it. I don't want a forced friendship between us. Just because we were best friends once, does not mean we can be best friends again.
I am not saying we will not talk to each other. We will obviously be meeting everyday, at college or at home or because of everyone.
So, let's not enter into this forced friendship and let things evolve between us." Abhedya finished his dialogue which he was preparing for the past one hour.Swarnima was listening to him quietly and once, he finished what he wanted to say she asked him, "so, if I were to behave like a normal person, how should I be reacting?"
"See, that's the problem. If it were any normal person they would have fought and created a scene for questioning their attitude and behaviour. But, you, did not even frown when I called you 'weird'. Go ahead, move on in life. Explore the world . Don't stay hooked to the past... Things have changed now. Circumstances are different, situations are new. So be free don't hold on..." Abhedya put his hand on her shoulder asking her to not hold on.
Swarnima just nodded in a yes.
"Huh!! Finally!! I am feeling so relieved now. You know from the time I came to know that you are, what you are... I felt so burdened but now that things are clear between us I am so relaxed." Abhedya started putting his things back in his bag and headed to the door. He turned around, came back, held Swarnima from her shoulders and said, "one more thing, you were right the other day, we should, rather, we must behave like friends infront of everyone else. But, you know people, like Arya, he has this habit of linking us, it really gets on my nerves. So, just make sure we just display friendship and he does not get an opportunity to tease us, okay!! Now, I am going out with my friends. Bye."
