Hadiza's Pov
" Nna Kwana Uwa",I greeted my mother .
She replied,"Saanu Hadiza".
She called after me to help her fetch water into the buckets from the well.I have a lot of chores to do today since I only get to help my mother out on weekends and during holidays due to schoolwork.
My mother valued education above all because she didnt get to finish from secondary school before she was bethroted to my father ,who is now late after dying from an unknown illness shortly after i clocked 3 years old.
"Hadiza!!!!",my bestfriend(Hauwa)called my name as she strode into the kitchen where i was picking the vegetables my mother asked me to.
"Hadiza walahi that corper near my father's compound really likes you ",said Hauwa.
I laughed hard at how excited she was..
"What is funny?She asked.
"Forget about him,if he likes me he will wait na abi".
"Ina jin yunwa Hadiza,"Give me small food because I ran from my house to tell you",she said.
"Oya eat this tuwo na before I change my mind oo",I laughed but she just eyed me and said you want to be threatening me with ordinary tuwo mtcheew but bring it like that sha😏.
After she finished eating, she left almost immediately because she left the house without telling anyone.
How I met Hauwa still makes me laugh till today because I was just a kid whose mother used to take to the stall before she enrolled me in school.
Hauwa's mother sold hand-woven bags next to my mother's stall,so she always brought her children along but Hauwa will always stay back without my knowledge and be looking at me because as a kid i wasnt the playful type.
One day,she asked me "Can't you play or are you not a child?"
I just liked her instantly and we became best of friends ever since.Hmmn how time flies by....
" Ahh Hadiza!!!!you havent packed the clothes outside, what have you been doing?",shouted my mother from the backyard.
" I am sorry Uwa,it skipped my mind..How was the market?" ,I asked.
" Alhamuddililahi Hadiza".
"Before you left the house I forgot to ask you for the money to sow my uniform that tore"."You didnt remind me haha but it is late already so by tomorrow which is sunday, take it to the mallam's place on your way to Hauwa's house".
"Nagode Uwa" I replied.
"Uwa I have homework from school to do and I want to read after that in the passage, the lights will be on for a while....I have done all you asked of me before you arrived....."
"Bring me the tray of beans on the kitchen stool and a bowl before you start doing your homework",she said.
After studying till midnight,I woke up 8:32am Sunday morning and helped my mother out in cooking, did the dishes, washed my school uniform and swept the compound and took my bath to dress up to go to Hauwa's house.
On my way to Hauwa's house to make my hair which i will do hers in return,I met Corper Audu who has been pestering me.
"Saanu Hadiza" he greeted and I greeted back in a low tone..He started asking useless questions about my school and finally ended on the aspect of his love for me,
"Has hauwa told you about my fondness of you"?he asked .
I replied "Yes she did and I am not interested until further notice and if you dont mind I have to be on my way ..Bye Corper Audu".
Corper Audu's Pov
" Walahi I really like this Hadiza girl oo but why she dey do like this now? Well I wont stop chasing her".
"Everytime i think of her,my chest keeps pounding.I think i will have to buy her gifts for her to know i am really serious about marrying her and my friends will start mocking me about chasing a secondary school girl who keeps denying me of what i want. But Hadiza is the one I love .I know what to do sha".
"I will talk to Hauwa again when i see her to help me talk to her..my yarinya".
