Hadiza's Pov
"I have been knocking on the door for almost 20 minutes...where have you been",my mother asked me angrily.
"I am sorry after I got back and ate ....I was so tired and slept off".
"Well I went to see Alhaji Sanni and you are going to stop working there for your own good",she said.
"But I haven't...."
"Ehh I don't want to hear any of it and you are going to follow me to shop everyday and if you like you can go and see Alhaji Sanni to explain",she shut me up and didnt allow me to say anything.
"Ohhohh now Uwa,I stump my foot on the ground.
She just left me in the sitting room and went to change her clothes without listening to me.The next morning,I purposely woke up late and delayed her because I didn't want to go with her but she waited for me almost like she knew my plans.
I murmured throughout our walk to the market."How much have you saved",she asked after we were done displaying our wares.
"Three thousand five hundred naira",I replied almost quickly because the fact that she was still thinking of me going to Lagos gave me joy at least.
"Ok when we get home ,we will talk more about it...I want to quickly check on someone around the corner and if anyone asks of me,tell him or her to wait",she said.
"Ina kwana",I greeted Hauwa's mother and collected what she was holding from her.
"Saanu Hadiza, how are you and I still asked about you from Hauwa because I haven't seen you in a long time",she said.
"I came some days before to see Hauwa but I didn't meet you at home".
"Ohhh I see now, where is your mother?",she asked.
"She just stepped out",I replied.
"Ok".
As the weather changed suddenly,I and my mother started packing up to go home.
"Hadiza take two nylons to cover our hair in case the rain starts pouring before we get home",she said.
Don Allah this rain mustn't fall before we get home.
As soon as we stepped into the house,it began to pour heavily with thunder and lightning following."Hadiza ,Go and check the windows and close them before you remove your clothes ooo",she called out to me.
"This rain had better not scatter the compound because I am not ready to sweep anything tomorrow".
After we were done cooking,my mother called me to the room.
"Hadiza carry that stool and sit in front of me...You can also see for yourself what's going on and if care is not taken hmmn you will end up like me and do you want that for yourself?",she asked.
"Not at all",I replied.
"So you will still go to Lagos oo but there is a way we will go about it and you must not tell anybody not even Hauwa because I know how close you two are",she said.
"Hauwa knows what happened already and we have plans to go together but she doesn't have enough money yet".
"I know you would have told her but can you hear yourself speak? If this plan doesn't work,it won't be my fault because I don't have any friend to run my mouth too",she said.
"She said Lagos might be the solution by leaving here because mine is very important. Ehmm we thought maybe I should run on my own".
"That girl has sense kwa and she wants the best for you. What she said is exactly what you are going to do oo because you don't have a choice for now and your father's family can not be handled lightly...I know what I have faced in their hands before and after your father died",she said almost in tears.
"I have heard you Uwa,I reached for my handmade purse and showed her the money I saved up".
"You have done well to save up to this amount for someone that earned very little...put off the lights because I want to sleep",she said.
"I am feeling sleepy already too but I want to quickly pack the clothes I put on the chair before I go to bed also".
