Chapter 14

Hadiza's Pov

   We made several stops on the road.One woman that sat on my left kept making me inconvenient with her children on her laps.

I couldnt even sleep well with all the thoughts on my mind and inconvenience I was going through.I just hope my mother is fine and does Hauwa know yet?

I didnt expect to feel this way.I was all excited about the thoughts of traveling but now I dont even feel like I should be here anymore.

8 hours on the road and we have not gotten to Lagos yet.This had better be the last time I take bus.

"Please can you collect the purewater from the vendor",the woman with children asked of me.

Ok,I collected it and gave it to her but her child mistakenly spilled it on me as he opened it.

Ohhohh what is this now,I said out loud.

"Sorry oo,na pikin no mind am",she said.

I have not been talking since because I know they are children,I replied her angrily.

"Na just that ordinary water dey vex you like this but I don beg you now".

The young man sitting on my right just gestured to me to calm down.

I just didnt reply to her again and quietly thanked him.

"What is your name",he asked.

Hadiza.

"Hmmn I am Aminu.So why you are you going to Lagos and you seem educated with your English".

I am going to Lagos to school and work.You?

"I live there but my parents live in Kano so I came visiting",he replied.

We conversed for a while at least he tried to distract me from my thoughts.

"I feel sleepy",he yawned as he said.

  It was already night and the driver said he had to stop for an hour to rest too...

"Driver what is happening now,we have stopped for like 5 times now..if it is not this,it is that",a man from the back shouted and some that were awake agreed with him.

"I have to rest ooo,no be my fault na",the driver replied back.

Some of the men got down to take a piss.The driver had packed where some vehicles coming from the north packed to.

"Saanu..saanu,the driver greeted the other drivers.

The flies were so disturbing and the other passengers were sleeping peacefully but I just couldn't.

When I tried to sleep for like 30 mins,I heard some noise and it woke me up. I had to wake Aminu to see something.

Some men were moving with guns and going to each bus to rob them.

Wake the driver,I said silently.

"Driver..driver,we have to leave here now because there are some robbers around",Aminu said as he tapped the driver.

Ehh for where,he shouted from his sleep and alerted the robbers moving silently. They were speaking Hausa dialect because I understood all they said clearly.

The one who sounded like the leader told one of them to go and check where that shout came from.

We all pretended to still be asleep as the guy came to check us and left.

Immediately the robber left,The driver roared the bus to engine and sped at a very high level into an unknown path.

We thought we were running for our lives and the robbers kept chasing us until we fell into a ditch and they couldnt any longer.

Aishat's Pov

   After I left Hadiza at the park...I went straight to husband's family house.

"Ehnehn why are you here this early morning again?Have you finally come to your senses woman?",my brother-in-law asked.

I am here for my daughter.Where is she?
He laughed so hard I saw tears drop from his eyes.

"Hadiza that you both slept in the same house is who you are looking for here.How?",he asked.

What do you mean by that?You threatened to take her by force and when I woke up she was not beside me.

"Woman!!!If this is a way to turn everything on our heads then you must be sick because those were empty threats and no one took your daughter".

"What is this noise in my husband's house",my mother-in-law said as she walked towards us.

My daughter is nowhere to be found and so I am here for her.

"Does she look like a goat that got stolen",she said harshly.

Hadiza is the only child of your late son and this is what you have to say,I said as I broke into fake tears and started rolling on the floor

"You better bring your daughter out from where you kept her".

I left there after they agreed to send people to look for her.

That night,I had a terrifying dream about Hadiza.I was crying from my dream with sweats all over my body.Ohh my daughter!!I started praying immediately  and slept off when I was praying.
