CHAPTER 34

Hadiza's Pov

"I am in Lagos Hadiza,you can come home now and we need to talk",Aunty Aminat's text message displayed on the screen of my phone.

"Ahh ahh did Aunty Aminat travel before?",I said out loud without knowing.

"What did you say?",Stella asked as she sat up on the bed looking scared.

"Aunty Aminat is back and I will soon go home ,why are you looking like that?Stella are you sure everything is ok?"

"Nothing is wrong",she replied immediately.

"Ehnehn ok o..do you know if Aunty Lisa has woken up?".

"Yes but she is dressing up to go out and please let me follow you when you are going home".

"Aunty Aminat's house is your house too...you don't need permission".

"So when are you going back so that I will know how to pack my bag?",she asked.

"Tomorrow maybe so that I will go very early".

Aunty Lisa and Stella acted extremely nice just for the few days I spent there which looked suspicious and had me thinking if everything was ok and Aunty Aminat sent a message through Aunty Lisa only once while I was there.

"My queen how are you doing today and I was wondering if we could see sometime this week",Anthony's text displayed on my phone.

Anthony was so good with his words that everytime I had something going on he would just text me coincidentally to bring a smile to my face.

"My king oo I am ok.how are you too?I am going to my Aunty's place tomorrow so I might be busy",I texted him back with a big smile plastered on my face.

"Hadiza!!",Aunty Lisa's voice echoed through the thick walls.

"Yes Aunty",I said as I quickly stood up to answer her.

"How far Aminat don call you abi",she asked me after I took a seat beside her

"She texted me this morning me that she is back but I might go home early tomorrow morning".

"Ehnehn tomorrow abi,ahh since my husband is not around don't worry I will take you and Stella with my car because I know she will want to follow you and I want to see my friend too",she said.

"Thank you Aunty Lisa for taking care of me everytime".

"Dey go jare..you are my sister now abi you don't know",she said playfully.

I just smiled sheepishly at her words and went inside the room.

"Did you tell Aunty Lisa that you wanted to follow me before?",I asked Stella as I saw her coming out of the bathroom.

"No oo,wetin happen?"

"Nothing she said we are all going to my Aunty's place together".

"That is good now abi".

The ride to my aunty's place was very silent .Just one word conversations were what we engaged in.When we finally got to Aunty Aminat's place,just a knock on the door and it was opened.What happened next shocked me because Aunty Aminat hugged me very tight.

"Aunty Aminat are you ok?",I asked still in the warm embrace.

"Come and sit my child,this is the time to talk",she said confusing me.

"We will be outside collecting fresh air",Aunty Lisa said dragging Stella along.

"I know you are confused Hadiza but it wasn't my fault.When I was still very young and naive,I had a lover but my parents wouldn't let me marry him so I got pregnant for him to avoid marrying who they wanted me to.My sister who you knew as your mother got married to who my parents wanted and she got pregnant too---",she said and by this time she was already in tears and I was just dumbfounded.

"Again my parents for their own selfish reasons,after I gave birth they tried to give me to another man because my lover at that time died which I knew for sure had hands in it.So I ran away trusting my child to my sister even though I shouldn't have left you but how was I going to take care of both of us then.When I came back to get you,she told me you died not long after I ran away which was a lie knowing fully well it was her daughter that died but she and her late husband knew about it .I had my doubts then but how could I prove it because you and her own daughter were around the same age and looked so much alike".

"I couldn't bring myself to be around a place that reminded me of sadness,anger and so many evil things that's why I never went back to Kano because there was nothing there for me",she said already wiping her tears.

I just stood up and entered the kitchen to get water and wipe my face to be sure I wasn't dreaming about what just happened.So the mother I knew as my mother wasn't my mother all along.Could this be true?No it couldnt be.I was lied to my whole life.All the stories I was made to believe.

"Aunty Aminat am I dreaming",I asked her as I saw her standing at my back holding a letter meant for me that my mother had written.

"No you are not Hadiza".

"But my mother couldn't have made up all those actions with my father's family",I said still confused.

"She meant to do all that for you because she treated you as her daughter...my sister is a very good person but the only thing she did wrong was lie to us".

Tears couldn't even drop from my eyes at that point.Mixed feelings took over me instantly.

Wow I didn't expect that though.I am hot already.The contents of the letter will be revealed in the next chapter.
