Hauwa's Pov
I roared in laughter after Hadiza told me about her encounter with the corper."Hadiza ,don't you think you were to harsh on him?"
"I only spoke the truth."she replied.
"I will knock your head if you dont put it in one place,i whined...Now that our exams are forthcoming,we should start reading from now dont you think Hadiza?".
"You are right Hauwa and I thought about it too but since it is in the next 3 weeks,we should start reading 2 weeks before abi."
"Hmmn Hadiza the bookworm😂".
"You are not serious oo..I am just saying",she said trying to defend herself.
*whispering to Hadiza *
"Ehnehn i heard Halima is pregnant for one of the corpers ehh and he is nowhere to be found, can you believe it?Halima that likes carrying her shoulders because she thinks she is the finest in this community"."Hmmn Hauwa how did you hear about it".
"That is the news going around na,when it is that you are always staying inside your house everytime".
"You know me now,i always have the latest gists to tell my friend".
Unknown to me,my mother was listening to me and gave me a knock on my head.."Why cant you be like your friend and keep your mouth shut instead of putting matters that dont concern you on your head mutum ba",my mother said.
" Hurry up with what you are doing and quickly get something for me from the market and Hadiza greet your mother for me when you get home.
"Since we are done making our hair, let me escort you and make a stop at the market to buy what my mother sent me".
"I still want to amend my clothes at the mallam's place for school tomorrow",she said.
" It is along the same path, let us walk together then ...have you done those practice questions the principal gave to us?I no know some things there ooo,i just leave am".
"I am done with mine, which one do you find hard?I can help you out with what's left after school since the time to submit is not due yet."she said.
"Nagode Hadiza..Byebye we will see in school tomorrow".
"Bye Hauwa".
Hadiza's Pov
" Saanu Mallam,I greeted him...I want to amend my school uniform, how much is it?"
"Just 50 naira Hadiza" he replied and continued asking about my mother.
After I left the Mallam's shop,I headed home immediately but unfortunately rain fell and I was drenched before i was halfway home and had to hide under a shed till the rain stopped.
It was already very late by the time it stopped raining.By the time I got back home,my mother was outside waiting for me.
"Uwa I am sorry, the rain made me late,I said.
"Come in Hadiza,it's fine, just make sure you remove your clothes before entering into the room and after you clean yourself up...your food is on the table",she said.
Aishat's PovInner thoughts....Ever since my husband died,I have been the only one taking care of my little girl without anyone's assistance not even my family or his.
Everytime I see Hadiza, she reminds me of how I really loved school. She has to be successful unlike me but will she ever make it in this community? I see a bright future in front of her....."Hadiza!"
"Yes uwa".
"Hadiza come and sit down and let us have a mother and daughter discussion.Have you thought about what you want to do after your final exams?".
"Yes uwa and i have great plans for you too",she replied.
"Ok let me hear it first before i say what is on my mind"."I want to go to lagos to earn big money and send myself to school because I dont want you to spend money on me again Uwa,I have heard a lot of stories and a lot of things of how people become successful in Lagos with ease and I am sure mine will not be different".
"I have heard all you said Hadiza and firstly,i am not complaining about sending you to school,i will get money even if it takes me to do menial jobs..secondly,nothing comes with ease in this life and all those stories are fantasies....we all have different destinies and what works for you might not work for another. You can go to bed now Hadiza".
"But are you not coming Uwa?"
"Dont worry i will join you soon",I said.
