As Tatsuya walked into his class, he was greeted by familiar faces and voices.

"Tatsuya! I heard about it! Congrats!" Erika was the first to speak. They were all around him because of the fact that Tatsuya was chosen to be put on the engineering team for the Nine School Competition.

"Good morning Shiba, do your best in the competition!" Mizuki said. Many people were crowding around the door to celebrate the first second course student in such a big event.

Other people were shouting at Tatsuya, congratulating him.

"Wow, news sure spreads fast,"

"Right, I mean it was only decided last week, only three days ago!"

"Seriously, where does everyone get their news from, anyway?"

Leo, Mizuki, and Erika didn't seem to be the ones who spread the news, they weren't playing dumb.

Well, maybe the upperclassmen told the people in their club, I mean there wasn't a gag order on it.

"Wasn't the official announcement going to be today?" Erika asked, wondering. Tatsuya simply gave a nod in reply.

The selections for the competition was supposed to finish two weeks prior, so they were running late. However, the arranging of the CAD's, uniforms, and apparatus had been progressing quickly. Although, as the engineering team hadn't been solidified, all of the checks and operation testing on the devices hadn't been finished.

Even Miyuki had been preoccupied with her role as a competitor, so Tatsuya convinced himself not to get lazy.

"They're making fifth period a whole school assembly, right?" Miyuki asked.

Tatsuya looked down at his classroom terminal to check this. He looked up again and nodded in reply.

"You're going to be at the inauguration, too, right, Tatsuya?"

"Well... I suppose so," Tatsuya's answer was rather unclear and lacked any enthusiasm.

"You're the only freshman who'll be there, right?" As Leo had said, Tatsuya was the only first year on the engineering team. As the team was lacking, and CAD-adjusting was vital, Tatsuya being chosen was just the natural course of events. His level of skill was abnormal too.

Of course, as he was working as a professional in this field, working as a simple engineer for a high-school competition was well below him. However, almost none of the students in the entire school knew that he was actually the magic engineer who brought magic technology ten years forwards in just one year. Only his little sister, Miyuki knew this.

"All of the first course students seem pretty annoyed at this," remarked Erika. It was perfectly clear that the Course one students were fuming from this, after losing miserably to them in the exams.

"Still, all the competitors are first course students."

"I guess there's nothing we can do about it. Envy isn't logical anyway," Mizuki said.

"Don't worry, he'll be fine! There won't be any rocks or magic flying onstage."

Tatsuya grinned at Erika's extreme consolidation.

Once fourth period had ended, Tatsuya headed to the backstage of the auditorium. Miyuki, who had arrived before Tatsuya, held out a thin jacket. On it, the symbol of a first course student could be seen, rather than having no symbol which is what Tatsuya usually wore.

"What's this?" Tatsuya looked at the piece of clothing once again.

"The technical staff uniform," Mayumi smiled at Tatsuya, "You wear it instead of your school uniform for the inauguration."
