"Are you awake Mari? Do you know who I am?"

A voice appeared in a certain girl's ears. It was Mari who had just woken up from the accident. She was lying on a bed surrounded by a curtain. Mayumi was the only one by her side, and so, of course, was the one who asked her the question.

Mari was obviously confused. What kind of a question was that?

"What do you mean, Mayumi? Why would I..."

Midway through her sentence, she realized what had happened, and her current situation.

"This is... A hospital..."

"Yes, the one at Susono Base. Thank goodness that your mind is working fine."

"How long was I out for?"

"For some of the afternoon."

Mari pushed her arms onto the bed, trying to get up, only to fall back down. Not only to the pain flowing through her ribs but also Mayumi, trying to stop her from standing up.

"Oh, don't get up."

She let go of the hand that was on Mari.

"You broke a few ribs. They're being held together with magic, but aren't attached yet. I'm sure you know, but the magic is only a temporary treatment."

Mari let out a sigh, before releasing her body into the bed, laying her hands out slightly.

"How long until they reattach?"

"A full recovery will last a week. A day's sleep will allow you to regain normal function, but to be safe, you're not allowed to do any vigorous exercise for ten days."

"Wha! But that means!?"

"You're out of the competition, sorry."

She sighed once again.

"So, what happened to the race?"

"Seventh High was disqualified due to dangerous maneuver, meaning the finals will be Third and Ninth High. Third place will be us and Second High, based on how into it Kobayakawa is."

"She's more than good enough, so we should be fine."

"Right... Also, you managed to protect Seventh High's competitor, she doesn't seem too badly hurt."

"Well, doesn't help that I got hurt." Mari complained, "So, did everything else go well?"

"Yep, everything else was as planned. You were the only miscalculation. Well... You couldn't help it, you could've won if you didn't decelerate, but you made the choice to possibly save a magician's career. Don't feel sad over this, I mean, you did what was right. Tatsuya agrees with me too."

"Mm... Wait. Why bring up Tatsuya now? What? Do you like him or something?" Mari teased.

"Wha!"

Mayumi turned red.

"I knew it!"

Mari began giggling slightly.

"It's not that!"

"Suuuure."

A silence coated the room for a few seconds before Mayumi began speaking again.

"Anyway... Tatsuya was the one who carried you here and stayed with you while you were being treated."

Mari reddened slightly.

"Don't worry. Tatsuya didn't stay while you were being changed. Even I wouldn't let a boy see a girl get changed... Well, anyway. You should thank him. He ran straight to you, almost faster than the relief squad, got you out of the waterway, saw instantly that you had broken ribs, and even gave instructions on how to patch you up and get you out."
