Chapter Twelve

Rin collapsed on the couch, holding a soda and bag of potato chips. It was her turn to use the big tv, Len and Kaito weren't down here cuddling while watching a movie. She was going to enjoy herself. Well, until there was a knock at the door. She stood up and pulled up her sweatpants, then went to the door looking like a wreck. When she opened the door, she saw Kaito. Well, what looked like a broken Kaito.
"I-is Len here?" he asked, putting on a fake smile.
"Upstairs. You okay?"
"I'll be fine," he brushed past Rin and went up the stairs.
"That was odd..." she said to herself.
Rin made her way back to the couch and laid down. Ever since Gakupo had become her friend, her life had become more interesting. Normally, life was routine. Get up at the same time everyday, eat at the same time, watch the tv shows you've been watching for over a month. Now, there were little sprinkles of surprise in her life. So far, none of them had been bad. In fact, they had been great. But she couldn't help but wait until something bad happened, and it seemed like it was happening now.

An hour earlier...

"The Cast List will be out in an hour!" Kaito playfully skipped down the deserted hallway.
"Can't wait," Gakupo sat down in the hall and felt his pocket for his phone. He sighed when he realized it was left in his locker.
"What role do you think you got?" Kaito began pacing in front of Gakupo.
"Tree number two."
"Is that really your dream role?" He asked.
"It's easier to win the best side character award when you have no lines or solos to screw up," he stated plainly. "Can you go to my locker with me? I left my phone there." Gakupo asked.
"Sure!"
Once Gakupo's phone was retrieved, they went back to the same spot in the hall. Kaito continued pacing back and forth, talking about what he did well in his audition and what he didn't.
"Well you see, I messed up every part of mine. So that takes one person off the list that you have to worry about," Gakupo swiped back and forth on 2048.
"That's not true, you're a total threat."
"No one's going to cast the awkward shy untalented kid in any big role, in fact they'll probably cut me."
"But it's no cut."
"Exactly," he smiled as confusion spread over Kaito's face.
Finally, the Cast List was posted. Kaito eagerly skipped over to the list. Meanwhile, Gakupo casually walked over to it.

Marian Paroo (Female Lead)- Miku
Zaneeta- Gumi
Tommy- Kaito
Mrs. Paroo- Teto
Mayor Shin- Fukase
Eulalie- Luka
Winthrop- Piko
Marcellus- Flower
Harold Hill (Male Lead)- Gakupo

"What the hell?" Gakupo looked more closely at the list.
"Oh..." Kaito looked down.
"They must have confused our names, come on. We're going to talk to them," He grabbed Kaito's arm and went to the drama teachers. "Hello, you do know that I am Gakupo and this is Kaito right? Because I think there may have been a little mix up." Gakupo anxiously tapped his foot on the ground.
"Yes, we are aware. Is there a problem?" One of the teachers asked.
"Yeah, you casted me as the lead. That's not right, he should be the lead," Gakupo laughed.
"Ignore him... lets go," Kaito walked out of the room.
"You casted me, someone with almost no talent, self esteem, or confidence. What the hell!?" he yelled.
"Number one, you have talent. Number two, the school counselor asked us to push you out of your comfort zone."
"That's messed up," he left the room and started chasing after Kaito. "Kaito! Wait! Please!"
"Why are you so scared to show your talent!? Why can't you be normal! Any other person wouldn't have argued to take them out of the lead, they would argue into it!" Kaito turned around, tears streaming down his face. "All you do is self deprecate, push others away, and say you're fine. It's getting annoying!"
"I'm sorry for trying to get you the role you deserve!"
"One of the reasons I was practicing so much was so that I could beat you for the position! So just shut the hell up and accept that people can like you!" Kaito ran out the front doors.
It wasn't the fact that he was so self loathing that it was impressive, it was why he was. He was so scared of stepping over the line, and no one knew why. He wouldn't say anything about it to anyone, even Kaito. He ran to Len's house, he needed to see him and tell him what happened. Kaito didn't want to be mad at him, he just tried to change the roles to make him happy, but he couldn't help but feel just a bit mad.
