2:59am. haeyoung felt her phone vibrating on her bedside table, indicating that someone was either calling her or she's getting spammed with 100 messages. sighing, she picked up the phone and answered it without looking at the caller ID.

"hello?"

"i hate it when people come over to my house and ask me if i have a bathroom. like, no of course not, we pee in the backyard."

"jen-"

00:16
jeno ended the call

even without looking at the caller ID, haeyoung knew whose voice this belonged to distinctively. which lunatic would call her at 3am just to say a joke and end the call? the one named lee jeno.

she groaned and placed her phone where it was previously placed and fell back to sleep, only to be interrupted by another incoming call. but haeyoung knew better than to pick up, so she ended the call and blocked jeno, continuing to sleep peacefully.

___

"haeyoung! you blocked me last night!" jeno whined, irritating haeyoung.

"you called me and hung up instantly after telling me a lame joke at three am." haeyoung folded her arms, upset that her sleep was ruined.

"well- i can explain that,"

"then explain."

"renjun and i were playing truth or dare-"

"at three am in the morning?!" haeyoung raised her voice, not believing whatever he had just said.

"we couldn't sleep, you can't blame us for that. but yeah, he dared me to call someone and after telling them a joke, i had to hang up."

"first of all, you ruined my peaceful sleep. so yes, i can blame you. secondly, out of everyone, you just had to call me? you even called me a second time." haeyoung punched his shoulder lightly.

"that second time was by accident, sorry... i won't do it again. maybe," jeno cheekily smiled as he took a sip of his drink.

jeno and haeyoung were currently at a cafe, waiting for jaemin and jisung to arrive. jisung mentioned that he wanted to buy a new hat, so now there they were, chilling inside the cafe and waiting patiently.

"we're here~!" jaemin cooed, dragging jisung behind him.

"finally, we've been waiting for fifteen minutes," jeno huffed out a puff of air.

"sorry, jisung and i planned to meet somewhere first but i got up late," jaemin's ears heated up.

"of course jaemin is the one late. whatever, let's go now!" jeno stood up.

the four made their way out of the cafe and into the cooler part of the mall that was decked out with designer brands and some common brands.

"what type of hat do you want?" haeyoung looked up at the slightly taller male while walking into the store.

"i don't know if i want a bucket hat or a casual baseball hat. what do you think suits me?" jisung wanted her opinion, since he couldn't decide for himself.

"buy a sombrero," jeno butted in, laughing at his own comment.

"no, buy the umbrella hat," jaemin picked up the umbrella hat that was displayed on the styrofoam head and placed it on jisung's head.

"pfft," jisung snickered, looking at himself in the nearby mirror.

"it's cute," haeyoung said nonchalantly, checking out other hats in the process.

"no." jisung retorted, taking the umbrella hat off and ruffling his hair.

"what about this?" haeyoung showed him an orange bucket hat with colorful stripes inside. "that's too bright for me," jisung commented, shaking just head.

after trying on several hats, jisung finally found one that he liked.

"what about this?" jeno asked, holding up a blue and white tie dye bucket hat. the colours blended really nicely together and it didn't look too in-your-face. it was light and it matched jisung's outfit as well.

"that really nice!" jaemin and haeyoung replied simultaneously, giving each other high-fives.

"do bucket hats look good on me though?" jisung reconsidered, looking at himself in the mirror one more time.

"yes it does, you look really good." jeno complimented him.

"it even matches your outfit!" haeyoung added on.

"weolli?" jaemin squished jisung's squishy cheeks, causing him to sound inaudible. he meant to say 'really?'.

"what did you say?" jaemin tantalized, squeezing his cheeks harder.

jisung furrowed his brows and took jaemin's hands off him. "it hurts," jisung huffed out his cheeks.

"you should buy that," haeyoung told him.

"alright, it's settled then." they made their way to the counter and jisung paid for his hat.

"who knew buying hats could be this tiring," jeno sighed and sat down on one of the benches.

"jisung is just picky, that's why," jaemin answered jeno.

"no i'm not! i have to find the right one, you know?" jisung riposted.

"no, i don't know." jaemin retaliated.

"wait... where's haeyoung?" jeno looked around and noticed that haeyoung was gone.

"what the- but she was just right beside me!" jaemin shouted incredulously.

"she vanished," jisung jested.

"i'm right here," haeyoung popped out from one of the shops, holding ice cream bars in her hands.

"today is a hot day so i bought ice cream for you guys," haeyoung passed the flavoured ice cream to them, saving the last one for herself.

"this isn't strawberry yogurt flavoured, is it?" jaemin checked.

"do you want it to be?"

"no, thank you." jaemin retracted his hand and opened his ice cream.

"haeyoung is so generous and kind!" jisung jumped up and down, elation running through his veins as he haven't had ice cream for the past few weeks.

"it reminds me of how we first met," jisung mentioned.

"you're right!" haeyoung exclaimed, remembering the incident.

"can someone... fill me in?" jaemin asked, bewildered.

"did you forget? haeyoung mentioned that she bought ice cream for jisung and chenle when they first met at the park." jeno enlightened the confused jaemin.

"ohh! i remember now!" jaemin said, amused.

"since we're done buying my hat, i'm going to bring haeyoung home now. bye!" jisung bid the boys goodbye and dragged haeyoung with him.

"what?" haeyoung chuckled, puzzled.

"i'm bringing you home." he tucked his hands into his jean pocket.

"why?"

"do i need a reason to take you home?" jisung raised his brow.

"no..."

"exactly!"

so there jisung was, bringing haeyoung home. all they talked about on their way home was how their first encounter went, bringing up some inside jokes only they could understand along the way.
