NO POV

it was a bright and sunny day with a scorching hot sun shining down on the city as haeyoung and gayoung walked along the paths back to haeyoung's house after school to start on the history project.

they were walking in silence the whole way back, just because neither of them wanted to initiate a conversation.

"we're here." haeyoung unlocked the door and placed her bag on the couch, gayoung following after.

"the laptop's on the couch, you can start searching up historical sites first. i'll go get changed."

gayoung hummed in response and started researching. after a few minutes of researching, loud voices were heard outside the door and it sounded like there were more than one person.

"hAEYOUNGGG! WE'RE HERE TO CRASH~!" the voices outside the door were getting closer and closer and soon after, 7 boys entered the house.

"uhhh where's haeyoung?" mark asked and halted, noticing that haeyoung wasn't present. his sudden halt caused everyone behind him to bump into him, falling over like dominoes.

"i'm back- what in the world happened here?" haeyoung almost tripped going down the last step of the stairs, taken aback by the sight of 7 men piled on top of each other.

"hi! since we had early dismissal today, we just wanted to come visit you and hang out," jisung grinned and got off mark who was still on the floor, groaning in pain.

"well sorry to break it to you guys but i have a project to do." haeyoung shrugged.

"we have our own homework to do as well. let's just treat this as a study hangout!" jeno suggested.

"that's not a bad idea," everyone agreed and started feeling productive, only for it to last less than an hour.

HAEYOUNG POV

halfway through, everyone was caught doing their own things. some were laying flat on the floor, some were caught up in a reverie, some were using their phones, and some were actually serious about their homework. it was quite boring, to say the least.

not long after, gayoung spoke up, "can you guys go out and buy some snacks or something? this is getting boring."

"i can go out and get some, i know a place-"

"shh." gayoung hushed me before i even finished speaking. "i meant the boys, not you."

"do i have to go too?" jisung asked sulkily.

"i was deliberately looking at you when i said that, i hope that answers your question." gayoung replied monotonously as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"so, all 7 of them will go?" i knitted my eyebrows.

"yeah."

why does she want all seven of them to leave?

although the boys were dreading to leave the house, they eventually left, making it only gayoung and i in the house. gayoung turned to me and smirked.

"haeyoung, truth or dare?"

i was baffled. "what? you could've suggested this while the boys were still here, now that there's only the two of us, it won't be fun."

"just answer the damn question." she rolled her eyes.

"fine, i choose dare."

"i dare you to break someone's heart." gayoung dared me as i widened my eyes in shock.

"what? that's a bit too much, don't you think?"

"not at all! we all need some fun in our lives. breaking someone's heart is not a big deal, let go for once, take some chances!" she beamed as if it was so easy and fun.

"breaking someone's heart isn't fun at all. that's like the same as showing fake love." i said.

"fake love is better than no love." she gazed at me with a piercing stare, a hint of sinister in her eyes— a total change of demeanor.

"and that's where you're wrong. that's just plain selfishness, using someone for your own entertainment."

"blah, blah, blah. you have a blabbermouth, do you know that? oh! do you know what would be more fun? breaking your own close friends heart! i heard you're pretty close to the seven of them. break one of their hearts, i dare you."

"i won't do the dare." i snapped, anger slowly building up as she was really pushing the limit.

"a dare is a dare. if you don't do it... i'll embarrass you in front of the whole school." she smirked.

"we barely know each other, you wouldn't. and if you're going to dare me into doing something as horrible as this, the least you could do is not include chenle and jisung in this. only horrible people like you would find joy in something so cruel." i spat harshly.

"it's either you do it or i will embarrass you in front of the whole school. you have by tomorrow to make up your mind. you don't have to instantly break his heart, but before we graduate i'd like to see you try." she emphasised the word "will".

"you're crazy." i scoffed.

just after i said that, the boys came flooding through the door with bags full of snacks.

"we're back! we got so much..." chenle trailed off, noticing the heavy tension.

not one person decided to speak up until gayoung stood up and excused herself.

"i have to go back now, it's getting pretty late." she took her belongings and made her way out, avoiding eye contact with everyone as if she were medusa.

"just leave the snacks on the table, i'll pay you guys tomorrow in school. you guys should get going as well, the sun is about to set." i cleared the area around me and made my way up to the bedroom, not even seeing them out the door.

i found myself cooped up in my room alone, staring at the ceiling with so much weight on my shoulders. whose heart am i going to break? my close friends heart. why am i doing this? because of a stupid dare. is this a good idea? hell no.

"hey haeyoung, are you okay?" a voice spoke from outside my bedroom. i didn't have the energy to reply.

"i'm coming in,"

"why are you still here? i thought you went home with the others," i sat up, puzzled.

"i'm worried about you. i mean, we all are. but i just wanted to check up on you since you're my bestfriend. the air was so thick when we came back, what exactly happened? i don't think the project is that deep," he chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.

"mark, nothing concerning happened. no one got hurt, everything's fine." i lied.

"are you sure? i just want to make sure you're alright," he placed his hand on top of mine and caressed it.

"i'm alright, i assure you. when are you going home?"

"now i guess, since you assured me that you're alright. i shouldn't bother you anymore. rest well, see you tomorrow!" he waved and exited my room, leaving me all alone in the house.

before i change my mind, it's now or never.
