Over the past month, my initial dislike towards Evan vanished by day.
It's kind of funny how quickly I began to like him. Is it the ring? Did he curse it? Whatever the reason, I don't hate him as much as before.
There's still a bit of annoyance in here, but I think it might be from spite. After all, I didn't want to be Evan's friend. My parents did.
He knows this, I'm sure. While he doesn't hold back the snarky comments and howls with his friends, he does with me. It's as if he knows if he says one thing wrong I'll drop him.
Now, he's walking with me to our class, which is not unusual now.
"So," he begins, rubbing his hands as if he's cold. "The holidays are coming again."
"Sort of," I retort. "Continue."
"My parents were wondering if you wanted to stay over."
I almost stop in my tracks, but I manage to keep my calm. "What an unexpected offer." I bite my lip. "I'll have to ask my parents. I sincerely doubt they'll allow me."
Evan nods, but I think he might be disappointed. I try not to care about it so much.

Of course we'll let you stay over at Evan's. I'll pack your bag for you and give it to you at the Platform. Have a good time until then sweetie!
Mom and DadReally, I didn't have much doubt that my parents would let me stay there. That doesn't stop me from being disappointed.
Still, in order to be nice, I go to Evan the next day to tell him the "good news."
"That's great," he says, not as excited as I thought he would be.
Huh. Why do I feel weird all of a sudden? I don't actually want to go to his house to stay. His family are Death Eaters! Why would my parents even allow me anywhere near them.
I only tell Blair about this because I don't want her showing up at my house, expecting me to be there. She snickers at me. "That's hilarious, but I feel bad for you... Well, sort of bad. Evan's still pretty great."
"He's okay," I scoff. "That doesn't mean I want to stay over at his house for the holidays!"
She just shrugs and tells me I'll have to endure it.
In class, Evan throws a piece of paper at me. It's an airplane. Opening it up while glaring at him, I see that he has written a note.
Don't look so angry about staying over. My parents are more excited than I am, so we're in the same boat.
Unfortunately, it stings me a bit when I see these words. Turning back to him, I see he is sporting a poker face. I rip the paper to shreds and glower at him for saying something like that.
I can't tell if he's surprised or not because after a second of holding my gaze, he turns back to his friends. I huff and do the same.
Why would he say something like that if he wants to act like he likes me?
Men are so confusing.
At least Severus and I are still good friends. He can translate this to me.
After class, I go straight to him to talk. "What does Evan mean?"
"What?"
I tell him what Evan wrote, surprising myself by memorizing the exact words. I forget he doesn't know I am staying over at Evan's, so I have to explain that, too. He peers around, as if looking for Evan. "It means his parents want to see you more than he does."
