"What were they thinking? Sneaking out, going to the Forbidden Forest?"

"Yes, how dangerous. It's more the reason to be thankful they are still alive. You see this broomstick? This belongs to Miss (L/N). I suspect she was going out to ride it, but I still am not quite sure on why the other two boys came along."

"And this one?"

"Poppy, do not act foolish. You gave him his wolfsbane."

"Headmaster, I wanted to say something. That bottle was found on the ground by the Forest. As if someone had dropped it."

"Must be it."

"Why did he have to attack those poor children?"

"Please. He's a child himself, his thoughts weren't conscious, and you of all people should know this."

"Yes, Headmaster."

"I'm off to bed, Poppy, I trust these children in your hands. Come along Minerva."

When I hear their footsteps finally stop echoing, I open my eyes and peer at Evan. He hasn't waken up yet.

I recall the events from last night.

After I had seen Sirius, that scrawny Gryffindor, I think I fainted and I can't remember how I got here. Did Evan help me up?

Actually, Evan didn't see Sirius. I don't believe he even knew Sirius was there to begin with.

I look over my shoulder to stare at the boy. He looks pathetic, lying there with his clothes ripped to shreds. I don't know how I feel about this, especially since I had no idea before that he was an Animagus.

He taunted Evan and I with my broom, dragged us deep into the Forbidden Forest. And yet still he helped us fend off the werewolf. I don't understand - if he dragged us in the Forest, didn't he want us dead?

Still, that's unlikely. This boy, he's my age, there's no way he could have wanted to kill us. We may be Slytherins and he may hate our guts, but he wouldn't kill us.

I glare at his sleeping body. He could have killed us, even if on accident. How reckless.

I sigh and lie my head back down to drift off into an uneven sleep.

This time, when I wake up it's noon. Evan and Sirius are already awake.

"Dear, are you okay? Feeling better?" It's Madam Pomfrey, and I smile.

"Yes."

She checks me, makes sure I won't have a heart attack at any moment, and sends me on my way. I don't have time to see how Evan's doing.

"Belle!"

Blair and Cassia are around me now, with Cynthia trailing behind with a hurt expression.

"Are you okay?"

"What happened?"

"I'm fine," I reassure them, pushing past so we can head off to my common room. "It's not a big deal."

"Not a big deal?!" Blair practically shrieks. "You were off in the Forbidden Forest alone!"

"I was not alone."

"You basically were," Cassia continues. "Evan was no help."

"Evan helped save my life," I snap, quieting them down immediately.

"You got lucky," Cynthia tells me, as if I didn't already know that.

"I get it, I'm a disappointment," I say, rolling my eyes. "Yes, if I died it would be so much worse for you three than me."

"You'd be dead, how could you care," Cassia points out.

I glare at her. "Yeah, I wouldn't care if I died right here and now."

"That's not what we're trying to say, Arabelle." Blair shakes her head, sighing. "Just be a little less reckless next time you go in the Forest, okay?"

"The only reason I went in there in the first place is to get-" My eyes widen. "Did I even get my broomstick?"

"Huh?" I don't answer them and run back to the hospital wing for answers. Evan waves to me as I walk in.

"Madam Pomfrey?" I find her by Sirius and I wonder if Evan knows he was there.

"Shouldn't you be heading to class?"

"Yes, ma'am, I was just wondering," I say, biting my lip. "Did I ever get my broomstick back?"

"Oh, yes, it was found several hours ago. Take it and run along."

A small, relieved grin forms on my lips as I snatch the broomstick and wave goodbye to Evan.

At the end of the day, Evan isn't at dinner so I take it upon myself to fill up a plate and take it to him.

As expected, he's still in the hospital wing. I set the plate on the table next to him and he stirs.

"Belle?"

"Are you feeling okay?" I search his eyes for any kind of pain that he must be feeling, but he stares back with empty eyes.

He sits up, wincing. A very bad sign.

"Hey, yes, thank you." He takes the plate of food and digs in. "I'm starving."

"Eat up, there's plenty." I sit on the edge of his bed and watch him eat. He doesn't meet my eyes.

When he decide he's finished for now, he sets it back down and holds out his arms.

Grinning, I lean down and he wraps me in a hug despite the pain he must be feeling in his back. I avoid the scratches. "I'm really sorry," I mumble. "I shouldn't have gone for the broom. I didn't mean to get you hurt."

"It's not your fault."

I don't remind him that yes, it technically is my fault. For now, I feel secure in his arms. And warm. How could I not take advantage of his hugs?

I rest my head on his chest, just listening to his heartbeat. The longer we stay like this, the more affection I feel for Evan. I can only hope he feels the same.

He sighs. "I missed you."

"I wasn't even gone for a day," I remind him, still smiling at the words.

He shrugs and we pull apart. "Still too long. I was all lonely in here." He sighs dramatically.

"What about Madam Pomfrey?"

"What, dear?" The woman comes in now with a bottle of some unrecognizable substance. "Oh, yes, time for your dose, Mister Rosier."

"Will he be out before tomorrow?"

"I think a night in here will do him good," Pomfrey tells me with a stern glance. "Now, don't give me that look. I didn't put him in this mess."

"Yeah, yeah, I know, it's all my fault," Evan says before I can.

"Alright, I've heard it," Pomfrey says, rolling her eyes. "Would you look at the time? Visiting hours are over, Miss (L/N)."

"But-"

"No buts. Get yourself a good night's sleep and I suspect I'll see you early in the morning."
