Monday, August 2

We don't bother to say hi to Tom the bartender as we pass.

Evan holds my hand tight while we don't waste a minute in the Leaky Cauldron. He taps the appropriate brick and we enter Diagon Alley to buy our items for our sixth year at Hogswarts.

"Got your list?" Evan asks quietly, all the while glaring at any lingering students trying to get a good look at us.

"Yes." I fumble to get it out, and we scan it together.

"The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 6, Advanced Potion Making, A Guide to Advanced Transfiguration," I murmur, but there are still more. The list is quite short, all we have are books. This year, Evan and I are replacing our robes since we've almost grown out of them.

We decide to go to Flourish and Blotts first for our books.

Unfortunately, Blair is in the store. I have to hide behind displays to avoid her because I don't feel like explaining myself or listening to her lecture me.

It's also because I don't want to feel so guilty already from running away. I know she must have spent her own time looking for me.

Luckily, she leaves before Evan and I can find all our books. I'm looking for the last book, Flesh-Eating Trees of the World when Evan finds them and hands one copy to me.

The next store is Madam Malkin's.

We enter the shop and I look through the robes and try to decide which would fit me best. After we find good robes, I see a silky cloak that I immediately like.

It's thirteen Galleons and four Sickles for a black, silky cloak that goes all the way down to my ankles. I can see a sprinkle of shiny sequins in a few places.

"Do you like it?" Evan asks me, as I turn around to show him.

"Yes," I reply, reaching into my bag for some coins, but Evan has already fished out the amount from his own. I try to warn him, but as always he doesn't listen to me and pays anyway.

"Alright, that's everything," Evan says as we leave Madam Malkin's.

"Please, can we look around?" I ask.

He gives in and I take his arm again. "Just remember, Mother will be waiting for us in thirty minutes."

Blair is undoubtedly upset when her parents bring her over here to my house.

"You-" she starts, jabbing an angry finger at me, "are going to come upstairs with me."

With one shameful look at Blair's parents, I dutifully follow her. She almost slams the door behind us and whirls around to face me. "You better explain."

So I do.

I tell her about how I overreacted when my parents got the mark, and how Cynthia let me stay over, and how I left Cynthia to come back home.

Her gaze softens a bit by the time I've finished, and she opens up her mouth to speak but I cut her off.

"Please, I know what I did was awful. I've gotten lectured and told off and scolded, but I get it now."
