The cushion from the couch rips and out comes a cat.

It lands on my knee while Evan is laughing at my reaction, but the cat isn't nice. It hisses and scratches at me until it can get away. "Ow!" I hold my leg up and jump away from the cat and the couch.

The cat runs out the front door, it's stump of a tail trailing behind.

"Demon cat!" I snap.

"Salazar's pole, your knee," Evan says and gets on his knees to examine mine.

The cat tore through my skin and now my leg is dripping with blood. "Oh, Merlin, I don't know how to fix this with magic."

He looks around and I bite my lip in pain. Ultimately, he decides to take off his scarf and press it on my leg to stop the bleeding.

"You didn't have to..." I wince. "Ruin your scarf."

"It's okay." He wipes off the rest of the blood with a sleeve and in only a few minutes, my leg stops bleeding.

"Thank you."

We leave the Shack after that, and head back to village. My leg is sore, but it can do. "Evan?"

"Belle?"

"Thank you."

"For?"

I turn away. "The day. It was nice. So thank you."

He mutters a "you're welcome" and we don't speak the rest of the way to the village. Inside, we split up to find our friends.

Unfortunately, Cynthia has left Blair and I, which means she gets to tease me about Evan.

We're sitting at the Great Hall for dinner, but I already ate so much candy that I'm not hungry. She decided to come sit with me. "I saw both of you."

"Where?" I ask, taking a half-hearted sip of my soup.

She nudges me, smiling. "Don't act stupid. At the Three Broomsticks. Yes, I've gone there many times with many dates."

"You've probably dated no more than three, or I would have heard of them," I deadpan.

Giving me an exasperated yet amused face, she continues to tease me. "How was it? The date?"

"It wasn't a date." Another spoonful of soup. She raises her eyebrows and I stare at her, finally giving in. "Okay, the hanging out was fine, I guess."

"Fine?"

I mumble a "mhm." This doesn't satisfy her, and I huff in annoyance. "We were rude to this waitress and a cat attacked me in the Shrieking Shack."

Her eyes go wide. "You went to Shrieking Shack?"

"Want me to tell you about the waitress?" When she declines, I roll my eyes. "Yeah, we went to the Shrieking Shack."

"Even after I told you what happened there?" I nod and take a few sips of water to coat my throat. "Did you see where they did it?"

In my mind, I can vividly remember the stain from the couch. I shudder and shake my head 'no'.

She sends another amused glance at me, and doesn't press further.

The next Hogsmeade trip is in January, only a few weeks from now.

We have Christmas to look forward to until then. It's soon, actually, and I wonder if I'll be sent back to Evan's house to spend the holidays.

After days of speculation, my parents inform me that I will be staying home with them.

I didn't think Christmas could come so soon. Today, most students are leaving to go home for the holidays. I sympathize with the ones who have to stay here.

Over the train ride, everyone is excited to go home. Cynthia is talking about how her parents gave little hints that she'd be getting a cat.

We reach the station eventually, and every student rushes to his or her parents. I find mine as soon as possible, and they're already over with Evan's mom and dad, Heather and Pierre. Evan gets there before me.

My mother brings me into a hug and I protest, face reddening with embarrassment. Heather smiles. "Hello, Arabelle."

"Hi." I push away from my mom and stand beside.

Pierre kisses my hand and winks. "So nice to see you again, Bella."

"Thank you."

Our families separate after that, and Evan sends me a wave before Disapparating with his parents.

Maybe I'll get to visit him before we have to go back to school.
