Amanda is ruthless. I don't know what exactly she wants from me, other than to make my life hell.
Last Tuesday, while I'm with Blair, she summons some type of curse that made me smell like rotten eggs for the rest of the day. Evan told me he could handle the smell, but...
No, I didn't want him anyway near me. It was embarrassing.
Of course, now I make sure to keep my hand on my wand to whip out a counter curse whenever she's around.
Evan reminds me not to retaliate, but it gets annoying after a while.
Today, we're sitting in Charms and he's talking about Amanda. "If she ever does that to you again, she'll pay. That's the end."
"She'll pay?" I scoff. "By who? You're telling me not to do anything about it, and I don't expect you to, either."
I can take Amanda's taunts and even bullying. I can take it all with a straight face, but I'm annoyed by how Evan distrusts me and thinks I am going to try to get some reckless revenge on her in front of everyone.
So I'm glad my comment made him think differently. When the words "I don't expect you to" come out of my mouth, Evan sits back with a frown. It's clear I've upset him, and for this one time, I'm glad.
Yes, I get it, I told him I would react harshly. And with time, I will. My anger will go into some kind of scheme to get revenge. Is that so bad?
After class, he doesn't speak to me, and I don't apologize. We'll make up.
For now, I just want to be devoid of his presence.
I decide to go outside the castle, and I'm surprised to see Severus. He's only reading, and I spot a group of Gryffindors boys, the three troublemakers and their pet.
They move closer to him and I stare, biting the inside of my cheek. They begin to tease and taunt him and I scowl, stepping up.
One of them, Lily's boyfriend I believe, casts a spell and Severus's pants tear off him and he drops to the ground in embarrassment. I decide that's enough and I match up to them.
In that exact moment, Lily gets there first and tries to help Severus. I storm over there and try to wave her off.
"Lily, that's enough, he doesn't need your help," I snap. "It's your friends' faults."
She glares at me. "Severus happens to be my friend."
I snap my head up and let out a sarcastic laugh. "Then why date such a tacky bully like Potter?"
"We are not dating!" She pushes me to the side and I collapse into one of the boys, one with light hair and kind eyes, despite his obviously devilish friends.
"Sorry," he says and smiles. I stare at him and notice Severus's scowl at Lily's pitiful attempts to help him up.
"I don't want your help," he grumbles. "Filthy mudblood."
Everyone stares at Severus, including me. This quiet, polite kid calling Lily a mudblood? Lily steps back in shock and anger.
"You'll pay for that, you damn snake," Potter hisses and points his wand at Severus's neck.
"Stop, he's not worth it," Lily cries and runs away, grabbing Potter's arm.
The other boy, a tall one with black hair kicks Severus's side and snickers at me when I protest.
"You foul git!" I scream, taking out my wand and pointing it at his retreating back. He couldn't care less, and the other boys leave, too.
I pick up Severus's pants and throw them to the now regretful boy.
"You shouldn't have called her that, Sev," I tell him, but I think he already knows that, so I take my leave.

It feels like I keep seeing Lily everywhere I go. I'm sure Severus feels the same.
She's only in one of my classes, but I always see her walk to her own. Always.
I see her right now, walking with Potter and his friends, and I feel angry. I'm mad that she can't forgive Severus at all, and that she won't give him another chance. He was embarrassed, she wasn't helping.
I exit the castle and head to the greenhouses to see Evan is already there. He's making sure nobody takes my spot next to him. I smile and step over by him.
"How's your flower grown?" I ask him, a proper greeting when we're in Herbology. We were given some type of weird flower to raise or whatever. Mine is very successful so far.
"She's growing. I've named her, you see," he admits.
"Let's hear it." I lean against the wall of the greenhouse and stare at him with my arms crossed.
I hear the tap of his foot as he contemplates whether he should tell me or not. "Cosette."
"That's a French name, right?"
"Yes."
"Perfect for a French family. Maybe you can give it to your mother as a gift."
He shrugs with a small smile and the class starts.
