December 1978
Cynthia, Blair, and Cassia... I haven't seen any of them in a long time.
Cassia is off somewhere in Spain to attend a wedding, and Cynthia is working too much to visit. I don't know what's with Blair.
I'm going to visit her this afternoon with Evan, since he will be off- thank Merlin.

"Who is it?!""Oh, Auntie!" I call, a new smile on my face. "It's Arabelle!"
I hear a couple of voices muttering and the doorknob clicks, but she never opens it. Finally, I hear my uncle's voice. "Prove it."
"What?"
"What- what did Jean give you for your tenth birthday?"
Confused, I share a look with Evan and try to remember. It had to have been important... But I can't think of it. On my tenth birthday... Well, our family went to an ice cream shop. Auntie surely gave me my present at home then.
"How is she supposed to remember that?"
"You don't know if it's a 'she' at all!" My uncle protests. I wrinkle my nose.
"Oh, step aside." The door swings open and a wand is pointed directly at my face. My eyes widen, but it vanishes as my uncle puts it away.
"Belle!" My auntie hugs me at sight, beaming. My uncle steps back and ushers us in.
"Oh, Auntie, Uncle, this is Evan. My fiancé."
Evan shuts the door behind him. The atmosphere of the room changes immediately. Auntie screams and my uncle drags her away from us. Both of their wands are up and pointed at Evan, who stiffens in surprise.
"You brought one of them here!" My uncle shouts.
I hurry to find an explanation but a figure steps out from the kitchen. "Father, stop this!"
It's Blair, in a shimmery black dress and shoes. Is she going out?
She smiles at me. "Hey, Arabelle. I'm sorry I missed your birthday. And Evan!"
"Evan..." My auntie mutters. "As in Evan Rosier?"
"Evan Rosier is in my house?!"
"We should go," Blair murmurs.
Without another word, Evan, Blair, and I head out away from the parents who seem to have a grudge against Evan. That's when I realize that not everyone thinks of Evan like I do.
Blair hugs me when we get outside. "It's been way too long, but I can't stay for a while. I'm meeting someone." I stare at her.
"What do you mean you're meeting someone?" I demand, but Evan is quick to say.
"She's got a boyfriend, don't you?" He smirks, as if forgetting of how unwelcome my aunt and uncle were.
Blair blushes and turns away uncharacteristically. "I should've told you, but..."
"Who is it?" I ask eagerly.
"I'm not allowed to say." She smirks. "He wants to keep it a secret."
"Okay, who have you already told?" I tease.
She shakes her head, grinning. "Well, I'm going to be late, but how about I visit tonight?"
Evan will be gone tonight, so I shrug. "Sure."
"Great. I'll be there at ten."

She did not come.I poured two glasses of firewhiskey, figuring we both needed a break and she stood me up. I waited until after twelve and I went to find her.
I stand outside of my aunt's house but I don't think they'd appreciate seeing me, especially after I brought a Death Eater into their house. What really scared me is how little it affected Evan; it's almost like he's used to it.
I try to find Blair's room and peek in, but it's empty. Where is she?
Finally, I decide to knock on the door.
My aunt opens it with a forlorn expression. I automatically assume the worst, but her expression clears to a more stern one. "We need to talk."

"You're engaged to a Death Eater," my aunt says. For the first time in my life, she hasn't offered me tea or candy.I don't know what to say about Evan. What good deeds has he really done? "He's not like the others," I protest weakly. "He's good to me. He makes me happy."
I wish she would just say she's glad that I'm happy, but that's not the case.
"Arabelle, I don't know."
"I do know," my uncle cuts in. "She's fraternizing with the enemy, she is. She could lead him straight to our family. He could kill us all, wouldn't give a damn."
I bristle, but my aunt is quick to hush him up. She turns back to me. "It's just not safe for us."
"I know." My throat tightens. "You don't want anything to do with me."
"That's..."
"I came here for Blair."
"Don't bring my daughter into this!" My uncle yells, suddenly protective.
"She and Evan are friends!" I shoot back.
"Enough!"
Auntie Jean stands up. "Please leave," she says. I don't waste any time storming off and slamming the door shut behind me.
If my own family doesn't want me, if they want me to leave them alone, I won't ever talk to them again.
I stand on the doorstep, pausing but before I can Apparate, Blair appears near a building several feet away. I wouldn't have seen her if she weren't under a lamppost.
I start to call out but another figure appears. She yelps, but isn't quick enough.
My voice is drowned out by his own-
"Obliviate!"
