February, 1976
"Rumor has it that Dumbledore's trying to please all the students with this party," Cynthia chatters excitedly to all of us at breakfast.
Cassia and I share a look of forced interest, but Blair looks up, very intrigued.
"Who said?" She barks, setting down her thin workbook. It seems like nowadays all we've been doing is homework
"Practically all of Ravenclaw house," Cynthia says. Blair gives me a look, but I shrug. I haven't heard a thing.
"Tell me all about it," Blair urges.
The faintest hint of interest pops up when Cynthia talks about having dates.
"It's nothing fancy, just a dance here in the Great Hall. This time, everyone can go, not just third years and up. But everyone needs a date, and there's going to be lots of food. It's not a feast either, just a nice Valentine's Day party."
When she says "Valentine's Day", Cassia looks up, my mouth parts slightly, and Blair says, "You didn't say Valentine's Day?! Now we definitely need dates."
"I already have one," Cynthia says quite proudly, making googly eyes at her boyfriend. I scrunch up my nose in distaste.
"Don't worry about dates," Cassia says with a dismissive wave of her hand. "We should go shopping next Hogsmeade trip."
"Well, lucky you, there's one this weekend."
"I can't," I start to say something about not having enough money but Blair hushes me.
"I'll pay for you, Babybelle."
Babybelle? I put on a small smile and ignore the nickname.

"Arabelle!"
Before Cynthia, Cassia, Blair and I go to Hogsmeade with the rest of the students, Evan stops me.
He scans my outfit and shakes his head a bit. "Uh- do you have plans?"
"For Hogsmeade?" My eyes widen when I realize, yes for once I do have plans. "Did you want to do something?"
"Belle, we have to go. I'm not standing here, freezing my arse off," Cassia growls.
"So that's a no?" He asks, disappointment clear in his eyes.
"I'm really sorry, Evan," I tell him, backing up a bit because my friends have starting to move on without me. "Maybe next time though!"
He watches me hurry to catch up with my buddies and I hope he wasn't about to ask me on a date.
Quickly erasing the moment, I smile and continue walking and chatting with my friends.

Cassia comes out of the dressing room with yet another shy smile. The dress is a light blue one with sparkles sprinkled over the bottoms. It's not quite her style, but it fits and it's pretty so we get it anyway.
Cynthia has already picked out a deep golden dress accompanied with a brown belt and Blair tells us she already has the perfect dress at home.
