"Did you hear this article about Greengrass's mother?" Amanda cries from her seat, practically shaking with laughter at breakfast. "Trying to land a job at Gringotts and sneaking in to a vault? How unbelievably sneaky!"
"Knock it off, Davis," Cassia growls from her seat.
"I hope she knew she'd get caught. How can one be so stupid? It's impossible to sneak into a Gringotts vault," her friend, Betty something barks from beside her.
"I said knock it off."
"What are you going to do?" Amanda says, pulling the classic bully one-liner.
"Yeah," her friend backs her up. "Gonna cry to your mommy? Oh wait, she's in Azkaban."
"She is not in Azkaban!" Cassia protests. "But I might as well be when I'm done with you three."
"Oh, empty threats." Amanda smirks. "I get those all the time."
"Don't push it."
"I'm not pushing anything. Just saying." Amanda looks around pointedly. "No one else has the guts to say it, but your mother is a complete, psychopathic moron."
"You foul prick, don't talk about my mother like that!"
I snap my head up when Cassia pulls out her wand and points it at Amanda. They're both standing now and a teacher is hurrying down here.
Amanda laughs. "The Greengrass name is dead now. Join your mother and kill me, too, be my guest."
They start chanting spells harshly at the same time, almost knocking Cynthia's food bowl over and forcing a kid to jump from her chair and run out of the Great Hall.
"Enough!" Professor McGonagall hurries down here and with just a wave of her hand, their wands were on the floor. "Thirty points from Slytherin. Both of you go to the hospital wing now!"
I watch them leave, noticing the blood dripping down Cassia's face and Amanda's broken nose. Cynthia pats my back and sighs. "Blair says they've been at it for days now."
And it continues to be so.
I am no longer Amanda's primary target, but Cassia is. Even though she is much older and more experienced, Amanda can definitely get through to her. I keep trying to convince Cassia not to let it bother her, but it's no use.
Twice this week I see Cassia or Amanda get sent to the hospital week or detention for fighting, but there's nothing I can do.
It could be worse. It's not every day that they fight. It's often, but not all the time and I'm grateful for that.

"Cassia, you're better than this," Blair scolds from beside her while I fix a busted lip. Luckily, I finally learned the spell just in case."I hate her. I hate her so much," Cassia growls unladylike. I shush her and complete the spell.
"Stopping acting so reckless," I murmur. "You're starting to remind me of a Gryffindor."
"Any specific one?"
"Well, no," I answer, coughing. "Just a Gryffindor in particular."
"Maybe that Potter boy," Blair suggests. "He's very... How do I say this? Out there."
"Reckless, completely out of it, brainless. He's a complete Gryffindor," Cynthia says, surprising all of us. Though, we can understand seeing as her ex boyfriend, August, is a Gryffindor. He was a jerk.
None of us say it out loud, though. Cassia exaggerates a yawn, breaking the tension. "Well, I'm off to bed."
"Blair, stay with her," I remind her, as if she'd let Cassia on her own now. Cassia is completely head-strong and will not ignore Amanda unless Blair was there to tell her off.
"I'm too tired to fight," Cassia says before Blair can answer but she smirk anyway. "But I'm never too tired to let slip a poison in her evening tea."
"You'll do nothing of the sort," Cynthia scoffs. "Goodnight, you two." She takes my arm and leads me out into the hallway. "That girl..."
"Cassia's one of my best mates," I start to protest, until I realize Cynthia's just joking.
"We need some sleep of our own, I can tell," Cynthia responds, raising her eyebrows.
"Goodnight, Belle," Evan says as he passes, leaving a wink. A smile plays at my lips and I respond accordingly.
I can sense Cynthia's excitement seeing us so friendly. I wave it off as Evan rounds the corner.
"You two are the cutest couple," she whisper-squeals to me.
"We're not dating," I point out.
She gives me an incredulous look, with an eyebrow raised. "You go on dates all the time, or at least when there's a Hogsmeade trip."
I don't bother to deny that because, well, it's true.
"You two act so romantic around each other, too," Cynthia goes on, sighing. "I wish you would just get together already."
"We're not ready," I lie, just looking for any excuse at all. Besides, how do I even know he wants to be with me?
"Well, that's not what it looks like." She pauses so we can answer a question from the bronze eagle. "I love watching you two in the Three Broomsticks. So cute."
"Stalker much?"
"Call me creepy, whatever." She smiles. "I just don't understand why you don't shoot your shot. You two have perfect chemistry."
I peel off my shoes before we even get into the dormitory. "I'm waiting."
"For?"
"For him to ask."
