Saturday, December 30

Tomorrow, my parents will come pick me up from the Rosier's.

Before I even got here, I was so excited for tomorrow to come. However, now that I've been here for a few days, I kind of like it. I don't want to leave! That's not an option though. Besides, I don't want to hurt my parents' feelings.

I'll just have to visit. Very often.

Evan understands my desire to stay here. "I want you to stay, too, Belle, but you gotta go sometime."

"I wasn't here long enough," I complain, crossing my arms.

He pats me on the shoulder. "I'll see you at school, though."

I chuckle. "What if I wanted to see your parents? Evie? Mobey?"

"My house elves aren't an option, we both know their worth," Evan starts, laughing at the elves. "Besides, you seem disgusted to be near one of them."

"Vile things," I murmur. "Okay, okay, I liked seeing you I guess."

"There it is," he says, taking my hand and pulling me away from the couch. "Wanna go ice skating, again?"

I grin. "Do I!"

We accidentally end up staying at the lake for more than four hours. We only leave to eat dinner, which is at seven. I'm a little hungry, but I could stay at that lake for longer if I wanted.

Okay, maybe my feet are almost falling off and perhaps I can't feel my fingers. Too bad.

Evan's the one who makes me leave the lake, even going as far as threatening to go home and look through my stuff. "Oh, fine."

I scrunch up my nose and he takes my skates.

At the Manor, I throw myself onto my bed and huff at the unfairness of taking me back to my own house. Can't I be here for a day longer? No?

Evan knocks on the door even though it's wide open, which is unlike him. I sit up on the bed and put on my poker face. "Come in."

He grins. "Still looking as miserable as ever."

"It's not fair," I whine, lying back down on my bed. My packed bag is resting neatly at the foot of my bed. I feel the urge to kick it off. Evan pats my leg and scoots back so he is lying against the wall.

"I want to stay, too," he reminds me. "We're both leaving tomorrow."

I flip on my back to peer up at him. "Yeah, yeah. I know."

He gets up to look around my room. Surprised by his sudden nosiness, I just watch him. He looks through the wardrobe and the drawers. I'm glad I already packed all my clothes. "Where's your ring?" He asks.

I lift up a finger with the ring on and he softens. "I didn't see it."

I roll my eyes and throw a pillow at him. "So nosy."

He returns it. Sooner or later, we're having a pillow fight, laughing and squealing and just overall acting our age. It feels good.

Eventually, we have to stop fighting and he has to leave so he can sleep in his own room. With the door closed, I undress and and slither into my bed, closing my eyes for the night.

The next day I take my bags down the stairs, but I am stopped by Evan. "Mobey!" He calls to a nearby house elf, holding up his hand to me. "Take Arabelle's bags and put them by the front door."

"Yes, young master Evan." The elf takes my bags and disappears.

Evan holds out his arm for me and I rest my hand on it. He leads me to the kitchen where his parents are.

"Good morning, you two," Evan's mother, Meredith (I finally learned her name), says before taking a sip from her mug. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes," Evan and I reply. I pull away from him, slightly embarrassed.

"May I have some cereal?" I ask, only saying that to break the awkward pause.

"You may. Evie!"

She appears beside Meredith. "Missus?"

"Get Arabelle some cereal." Evie immediately pours cereal and milk into the bowl. She hands that and a spoon to me. I sit and start eating while the family talks.

"Are your bags ready?" Meredith asks me after a few minutes.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Your parents will be here in-"

There is a knock on the door. Annoyed, Meredith snaps her fingers at the house elf. It disappears and I hear the click of the door as my parents walk in. I practically inhale the rest of my cereal.

Evan's parents stand up as mine walk in. "Hello, Meredith, Frank. How are you?"

Meredith smiles at her husband and son. "Well good, thank you."

"Arabelle, are you ready to go?" My father asks me.

I want to shake my head 'no' but I just nod and try to pick up my bags. My father waves me off and picks them up himself. "Thank you for taking care of my daughter."

"Thank you for allowing her to stay," Meredith says, polite as ever.

"Goodbye," I tell them. Giving Evan a small smile, I turn away with my parents and we leave.

At home, Clobbey takes my bags and disappears. I hug both of my parents when we arrive.

"I'm guessing you had fun," my mother says, patting my back.

I pull away and nod. I don't want to say anything else about it, so I go to my room instead of telling them. After all, I thought I wouldn't like the stay- and I was wrong. How embarrassing.

In my room, I tell Clobbey to go clean the bathroom again to keep him out of my room. "Clobbey has cleaned the bathroom before you came home, Arabelle."

I glare at him. "Then go clean my parents' room."

"Masters have ordered Clobbey to stay out of their room."

I wonder why, I think. "Then go clean something else."

"Clobbey was cleaning your-"

"Go clean something else!" I tell him. "Don't disobey me."

At these words, he scurries out of my room to find something to clean. I sigh and lie on my bed. I don't mean to be so awful to Clobbey, but can you blame me? I want him to stay out of my room.

Oh, wait. My parents told Clobbey to stay out of their room. Why don't I do the same?

I'll do it the next time I see him.

For now, I open my bag and unpack my clothes into a separate, bigger bag for school.

I have my suitcase packed for Hogwarts at the end of my bed in only an hour.
