"Alright class, listen up, we have a new student with us this year. This new student is a transfer student from Japan, so I want you all to treat her kindly, understand?" Everyone murmured with each other as they keep repeating the word Japan. Ms. Corrinne, our maths teacher, opened the door to allow the new student to come in. It is the weird girl. "Hey, it's the weird girl!" Kyle whispers to me as we are in the process of vandalizing our wooden tables.

The whole class went silent as she walked in and faced us. Ms. Corrinne cleared her throat. "Now, I get that this is your first time meeting a foreigner from oversea, but don't be stunned, I can assure you that she is as normal as you guys are." I bet no one agreed with her because the way she dresses tells us otherwise, or maybe that is how Asian people dress up. I don't know if it's just me but she looks pretty. I kind of have the feeling of approaching her but what will people think of me? Ms. Corrinne cleared her throat again before continuing.

"But we have a problem, our student here, Carol, cannot speak properly because she has a disability in her throat, so I want you guys to be patient when communicating with her. Everyone understand?" No one nodded their heads, but murmured with each other "You can take your seat beside Bailey, the girl right behind the class" Ms. Corrinne pointed at the empty seat beside Bailey while adjusting her granny spectacles. Bailey gave a distraught expression as Carol approaches her. "Holy shit, this is not happening" I whisper to Kyle as she saunters across the class to reach her seat with her shoulders pointed downwards in submission.

"Don't touch me, you freak" Bailey said the words loud enough for Carol to hear but not Ms. Corrinne. Carol ignored her statement and sits down patiently and unpacked her bags along with her books. Bailey mouthed the words Help as she put her things away from her and readjusted her table further from hers. She is not going to survive the school year in our class.

When the school bell rang signalling for recess, Bailey called out her gang and told us that she would meet us soon. Kyle, Max and I looked at each other. "Alright Bae, see you later" said Max as we walk towards the cafeteria where a huge mob of hungry students gathered to buy food and drinks. I choose our group's favourite spot beside a transparent glass overlooking the school field.

"The usual one thank you" It is Max's turn today to buy us food, and from the looks of it he doesn't want to. "We are hungry" Kyle exclaimed as he took a quick nap on the table, I am surprised he can even sleep with the clangour and the commotion in the cafeteria. I looked out the window, hoping to watch some football match between classes but there is nothing interesting going on. So I turn my head around the cafeteria, hoping to catch something interesting going on. Out of the corner of my eyes, I see Bailey and her gang approaching Carol who is sitting near the bins eating her homemade lunch. We call that the rubbish spot because no one ever sits there, unless you're new around here.

"Hey, Kyle, what's Bailey doing?" Kyle woke up and looked at me questioningly before looking at Bailey's direction. I couldn't hear anything but I could see that their mouths are moving. Eventually, things got physical as one of Bailey's members started nudging Carol on her shoulders. Max got there just in time to prevent a scene from happening. Kyle and I stared at each other. We both ran towards the group.

"Yo, chill out guys, let's leave her alone" said Kyle as he didn't want to get involved in another detention like last year. Carol stood up slowly and walked away. Bailey wanted to stop her in her tracks but Max intervened. "Bailey stop" Max commanded while restraining her arms. "Yo, you guys okay?" I jumped in the conversation, afraid that they might have a couple fight, but from the looks of it they were already hugging and all. Geez, talk about new couples.

"Can we like not disturb her anymore?" I said it after they ignored my first statement. "She is asking for it with her behaviour, I don't like the way she dresses, at least have some courtesy" Bailey replies. One of her girl gang members nodded. "Dude, let's go get our food before recess is over" Kyle changed the subject to food because mostly he is hungry, and partially he doesn't want to talk about Carol for now.
