"Thanks again for the ride Malcolm" You said as you hopped out of his car. "You sure you don't want me to pay you? I feel bad just getting a free ride."
"Don't even sweat it! If I had known you lived here? I would've given you a ride months ago!" He spoke as he looked around at the neighborhood you lived in. It was in the middle of the city and in the rich part as well. Your family owned the top floor of the building allowing you constant roof access and a wonderful view off your balcony.
Looking back at Malcolm he looked like an excited child. He had a look of wonder on his face as he looked at the buildings surrounding your apartment. Before he could marvel at your living conditions anymore you bid him a goodbye and a goodnight and trudded into the front lobby of your building. As you went towards the elevator that would lead into your penthouse's living room you gave a friendly smile to the receptionist and she gave you one back. While waiting for the elevator your eyes glanced to the TV hanging on the wall showing a news station.
"Breaking news! There has been a development in the case against monsters. Less than 20 minutes ago there was a violent fight between a monster gang and a group of human kids. Two of the kids have been moved into the hospital with unknown injuries and the monster gang fled the scene." The reporter had a disgusted face every time she spoke about monsters. The elevator arrived just as she showed pictures of the scene. It was downtown near Mia's Magnificent Menu but far enough away that you guys wouldn't be getting any extra publicity from this. You stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for your floor.
Stepping into the living room your shoes clicked against the floor and you walked to the bench to pull them off your feet. The penthouse had marble flooring and sleek grey walls. The living room had a long white couch with grey accidents and silver studs. There was the fluffy grey rug on the floor in front of the couch as well. The whole wall was windows which lit up the room along with the chandelier. In front of the couch there was your family's TV upon a coffee table. Looking to the right was the way into the kitchen and dining room, along with your father's office. Looking to your left was a bathroom along with the 3 rooms in the house down the hallway, each with a connecting bathroom. On the wall of the hallway were your family's accomplishments. Your brother's awards and paper clippings, your father's PHD and award, your mother's several trophies, but there was nothing on there with your name on it.
You sighed and walked to the kitchen to grab a snack before working on your essay's outline. Your kitchen had the same theme as the rest of your house with more modern appliances. You opened the kitchen and grabbed some leftovers from last night's family dinner. While waiting for the microwave to warm up the alfredo you put inside, you decided to check the news for what had happened early with the monsters and such.
You knew from a young age that the news lied, that most media lied. It disgusted you and it still does. Though in this situation, you knew it would be hard to find opinionated information on the situation. You opped for checking reddit, but that was a quick no go. After that you decided to look up monster websites, seeing if their information would be more accurate. Though the only news station they had was run by the actor Mettaton, and that would be more opinionated than anything else. Glancing at it anyways you saw them talk about the monsters, who weren't mentioned by name, as sweet children and there was a strong distaste for the humans.
The beep of the microwave woke you from your thoughts and you went to check and see if the food was ready, which it was. You grabbed the bowl and a fork and tread to your room, balancing everything in your arms and on your back. You looked like an awkward turtle but it was two in the morning, and no one could see you. Finally reaching your room, you turned the doorknob and walked in.
