After the dark, there is nowhere else to go than straight towards the light.

I was always told to keep my head held high whenever life tried to bring me down. Sometimes, I wanted to hide in a hole and cry until I ran out of tears. Or, disappear and run away from my problems rather than facing them.

No matter how careful we are, we lose many things in life. We lose love, family, friendships, and opportunities. We fall prey to sadness, regret, failure, and disappointment. Unfortunately, these are all common occurrences in life.

Life is so baffling, sometimes, that all we can do is accept things the way they are, say our proper goodbyes, and move forward with our heads held high, hoping for better days to come.

But giving up a fight and saying goodbye is always easier said than done.

One would think nonsense gossips and empty rumours would cease to exist once students reach the level of maturity needed to enter and succeed in university. However, the reality was that the exchange and spread of malicious chatters still prevailed, no matter the stage of life.

"Did you hear about Jimin and Hyerin?"

"Apparently, Jimin and Hyerin are back together."

"I'm positive Jimin used the other girl as rebound, it was so obvious. But now that he and Hyerin are a couple again, he tossed her to the side. She must feel so humiliated."

"I feel so bad for her, but she should've expected it."

"Didn't her best friend die a few weeks ago? She must feel so lonely now that everyone's leaving her."

"Poor girl. What was her name again? Never mind, it's not like I care."

"Impossible and useless fight for his heart. . ."

"No love from him at all. . ."

Ayla tucked her face deeper into the scarf wrapped around her neck, which she now tugged up to cover half of her face to avoid recognition from the other students.

Since the rapid spread of news about Jimin being with Hyerin for the past twenty-four hours, Ayla had heard nothing but hurtful words since she stepped on campus. Most of them were from people she had never encountered before, but this did not stop her from hiding her face from them in fear of being identified.
