The tension in the room was cut when the sound of a ringing phone blared in the infirmary, bouncing on the walls and giving both women a headache, that was until Eden's eyes locked on the phone, her phone, a picture of her father on display for the whole world to see. Wasting no time, the brunette leaped forward, successfully grabbing the source of the noise, ending it by accepting the call.
The cool surface of the phone pressed against Eden's face as she anxiously waiting for her dad to speak, hoping, no praying, that it wasn't one of his co-workers or bosses or even their alpha called her through his phone to deliver bad news.
"Eden?" her father's deep voice sounded through the phone, relaxing every muscle in her body just with his voice. "Dad." she replied breathlessly, her whole body sagging, a sight that had Isabelle believing that she was going to pass out at any given moment. "Are you safe?" the urgency of the question threw Eden off, never did her father sound so worried about anything, not even when she all but broke her wrist at the age of 13.
Not that he had any real reason to be worried, by nightfall her wrist as completely healed and the only thing that remained was the memories.
Even when Eden looked like she was about to pass out Isabelle hadn't moved, but she did when she saw Eden pale completely, her heeled feet carrying her to the brunette until she was beside her while the brunette replied fearfully "Yes."
"I need you to keep Clary safe. Neither of you can come home, to either home, it's not safe." Luke finally said, his urgent tone alerting the brunette girl that this was an order, an order that would keep her safe if she went through with it. "Dad what's going on?" the Garroway woman quizzed worriedly, "We've been found."
Those three words were the last thing that Eden heard before the call disconnected.
Those three words were the last thing Eden ever wanted to hear.
Those three words had Eden breathing irregularly and her body heat up.
Isabelle had done her best not to eavesdrop in on the conversation, something that she successfully didn't do, meaning that she had no idea why Eden stood frozen in front of her, why her chest heaved and her skin grew hot, why a million emotions flashed through Eden's face. But she did know that whatever the person who had called her, her father it would seem, had told her it was most definitely not good news.
"You're burning up...." she couldn't help but comment when she touched Eden, quickly retracting her hand from her skin in order to avoid being burned by the high temperature, Eden didn't hear her, not in the haze she was in and Isabelle knew this.
Then, completely out of the blue, everything stopped. The labored breathing, the high temperature lowered and the emotions on her face narrowed down to none, something Isabelle had seen her older brother do way too many times, an impassive mask, a mask that didn't allow any emotion to leak through.
"Isabelle is she decent?" Alec called from the other side of the door, "She's decent." she said after a moment of hesitation, looking at the door opening over the brunette's shoulder before looking at her face again, jumping back when she saw gold eyes staring at her instead of hazel ones.
Gold eyes that were gone the moment she blinked in surprise.
"Eden this if Hodge, Hodge this is one of the girls that interrupted our hunt tonight." Alec introduced, his tone indicating that he still wasn't too pleased with this situation. Eden wasted no time in turning around, her now hazel eyes locking on the man that Alec had brought in with him. Confused familiarity flashing through both their faces, slipping through Eden's mask.
