Alec looked at the mixed woman before him with a slacked jaw, he had never heard a shadowhunter bash their own kind like that, unless of course, he counted his sister, but at the same time, he knew that she was not raised like the rest of her kind, which meant that she wasn't not taught her ideals from a young age.
However, he wondered what she had witnessed to be making such accusations, "The rules were made to control Downworlders who crave to expose us to the Mundanes." he couldn't help but defend, watching as she raised a brow mockingly at him like she knew something that he didn't. "With each newer generation of Downworlders, that are integrated in mundane society we suffer more chances of being exposed."
The words left his lips almost robotically, something that he didn't notice but that Eden most certainly did, and it amused her to no end, her father had warned about the brainwashing that the Clave did to their younger members from the moment that they could retain information, but to actually see it in person was something entirely different.
"Do you really believe that that's true or is that what the Higher up say?" Eden smirked, cocking her head to the side, watching as Alec scrunched his nose at her easy accusations, "It's the truth." he countered with a huff before turning to the stove and cooking his mix.
"Of course it is." Eden chuckled lowly, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest, "Let's talk training, as much as I love my dad, he's a bit rusty using Nephelim weapons, Mom not so much, but I think I'd rather win a fight than just survive it."
It was almost strange how welcoming she was of the people that she clearly disliked, and it was something that Alec found rather intriguing, it was clear that she didn't like them, the way she reacted in the infirmary indicated as such, as well as the fact that while walking to the kitchen, he'd seen her glare every once in a while at the runes displayed in the walls.
"Hodge will train you, Jace, Isabelle and I will assist and step in when it's needed." he told her after a few moments of verbal silence, the sweet aroma of what he had made filling both their senses and the kitchen, behind his back Eden pulled a face, tilting her head back, "Does Hodge have to be the teacher?" she quizzed as politely as she could.
"He is the instructor in the Institute." Alec replied, serving onto two plates what he had made and turning around to face the brunette girl, sliding her plate over to her, "So yes, he does have to be the teacher." tilting her head forward, Eden groaned slightly and sat more ladylike, removing her legs from the island and picking up the fork that Alec had set on her plate.
"I don't trust him, there something not right with him." She commented before starting to eat, "You don't have to like him or trust him you just have to learn what he teaches you." Alec replied, taking a bite of his own mix, "I think I'd rather gauge my eyes out than have him teach me. Honestly, there is something sketchy about the man." Eden input.
"Who's sketchy?" the blond-ish devil questioned as he walked into the kitchen, muscles flexing as he opened the fridge, "No one." Eden replied, shooting him a sharp glare, something that made Alec smirk slightly, "Hodge."
"Traitor."
