Monae's POV

"Are you Okay?"

"Yes ma, I'm fine okay, so relax and stop worrying."

"You won't be saying the same if you were in my shoes Nae, the car was going to hit you and I felt like I was losing my life too..."

"Shhh let's not talk about that, I'm here and I'm fine thanks to God who sent that guy back there to save me. It isn't easy, even for me so let's forget about it okay?"

"Easier said than done, it will take a while for me to."

"Me too and please don't tell anyone about it, promise."

"I can promise not to tell anyone but not daddy, he has to know. He really cares about you, imagine how he's going to feel if he finds out about it."

"I know, I know but we can't tell him at least for now. I promise to tell him when I'm comfortable enough to."

"If you say so, I have no choice then."

"Thank you."

Imo squeezed my shoulder in response, nodding her head. We fell silent afterwards having got home and quickened our pace.

At the driveway, there was a car. I hadn't seen it around before. It looked like Imo knows who it belongs to, I saw her eyes widen and a smile found its way to her lips.

Before I could quiz her about it, the front door opened and Roxie appeared, closing the door behind her. She beckoned us to come over as she waved her hands frantically, she looked very excited, her face was glowing.

"What's with the excitement, Rox?" Imo beat me to it by asking that question.

"You'll find out about it soon, now go to the terrace, someone is waiting for you." Roxie shooed her away still bubbling with excitement. If I didn't know her, I would say she was being weird but that's just Roxie, she's always happy but today's is extra.

Imo came back and dragged me along with her to the terrace. She was equally excited and I'm sure it has something to do with the car out there.

Okay so I get it now. Everything dawned on me when we arrived at the terrace. The owners of that sleek car out there are the Steeles! No wonder everyone looks happy, even Mrs Winchester is. She has her one hand on top of Mrs Steele's and the other holding on to a glass as the two clinked them together, grinning widely.  She took a sip of her wine and said something into her ears which made both of them laugh and high-five.

Imo released her hand from mine, going towards Mrs Steele who hadn't yet seen us arrive but Mrs Winchester has and her smile faded when she shifted her gaze from Imo to me. Her eyes looked beyond me, it was a silent order she was giving me and I understood it perfectly.

I quickly looked away and took steps back. She smirked in satisfaction, seeing me a bit far away from them. I knew why she had done that, Mrs Winchester doesn't want me anywhere near her prospective in-laws and old friends. She fears, if stay with them anytime they come around, Mrs Steele will take a liking to me. That was what I heard, I don't know the whole story, all I know is there's something more to it.

I stood there cluelessly, waiting for Imo to finish so we go upstairs, I need to get outta these clothes and fast. I prayed silently in my head, hoping they continue their merriment and forget about me so I can slip away without being noticed.

My prayer was never answered, it was as if God wanted me to be noticed and I can't complain. Mrs Steele looked in my direction and instantly smiled, her smile was beautiful and not forced like someone I know. "Hey, it's you again. What are you doing there? Come over here."
