"Hey, Avi, sorry I wasn't able to make it the other night to watch the movie." I glanced up at Jonah, offering him a small smile before taking notes.
I blinked, glancing back at Jonah's attire since he wasn't wearing his usual bright colors. Instead, he was wearing a black pullover hoodie with our school's name across the front along with the word lacrosse in big block letters. I blinked again, more confused than ever.
"Black usually isn't your color." I murmured, focusing back on my notes which caused him to chuckle.
"I know, they didn't have any other color options for the lacrosse sweatshirts." He said it casually as if it was normal or not a big deal. And most importantly, as if I knew our school had sweatshirts for lacrosse.
"Wait, did you buy it?" I put my pencil down, putting my full attention on him.
"No... the team got it for free." My mouth dropped open as I stared at him.
"You're in lacrosse?" He slowly nodded, seeming a bit confused.
"Since when?!" I kept my voice hushed, glancing around the library.
He gave me a quizzical look before an amused, slightly confused smile spread across his face. "Since freshman year. Lacrosse season starts in January, but we got these sweatshirts in a week ago." The fact that I didn't know this really shocks me.
"How come you didn't tell me?" The accusation was clear in my voice and I was blaming him that I didn't know.
He laughed some, leaning back in his seat, "I thought you knew." Shaking my head in amazement, I closed my notebook because I'd rather talk to Jonah than do notes. And it wasn't like our teacher was paying attention, she was discussing something with the librarian.
"I didn't even know you were in a sport." I admitted honestly, still a bit surprised. He didn't seem like the lacrosse type.
"Well, I am, season starts in January so you should come to one of my games." Giving an enthusiastic nod, I glanced up as Chris started heading our way.
His cheeks were a faint pink and embarrassment clouded his features while he sat down in the chair next to me, leaving me between him and Jonah. Without a word, he tossed two tickets onto the table, his cheeks deepening in color.
"What's that?" Jonah and I both shared an amused look when we said it at the same time.
Chris rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, occasionally glancing towards our teacher.
"Tickets for you and Jonah... Gracie wants you to come to the first ballet showcase." I smiled brightly, happily grabbing one of the tickets and Jonah swiftly snatched the other one, looking excited.
"Sweet, I get to see my little angel dance." Chris chuckled, seeming a bit at ease for a few seconds before looking down at the table.
"What is it, Chris?" He covered his face a bit then sighed, avoiding my gaze.
"I'm dancing with her... it's the one I signed up for, remember?" Jonah snickered, earning a glare from Chris.
I studied the ticket, noting the date and time so I could write it down somewhere. I pulled my phone out, taking the case off and laid my ticket down before snapping the case back on.
Jonah guffawed, quickly covering his mouth, "Nice, does that mean I get to see you in a pink leotard and tutu?" I bit my lip to keep from laughing, enjoying the annoyed look on Chris' face.
"In your dreams, ass wipe." I snorted as Jonah winked at Chris before nudging me in the side.
"I bet he'd look cute." This time I couldn't hold in my laughter and I turned, burying my face against Jonah's shoulder.
He wrapped his arm around me, laughing along as I tried to regain my composure. Once I did, I looked back to see Chris scowling. No doubt that comment irritated him.
"Glad to see all three of you are working hard." I glanced up to see our teacher staring down at us, not the least bit amused.
"Oh, I was just helping Chris-"
"We were helping Chris decide if he'd look better in a pink tutu or not. What do you think, Mrs. Adams?" She pursed her lips, doing her best not laugh as she looked towards Chris.
"I cannot picture Chris in a tutu, doesn't seem like his style. Anyway, get back to work or read a book, please." With that, she walked away and I opened back up my notebook.
Silence ensued around us while I got back to work. Jonah and Chris didn't even bother working, both pulling out their phones.
"Hey, guys!" The three of us jumped in surprise, staring at a bubbly blonde whose hair was up in a high ponytail.
I stared at her, not really recognizing her because I'm pretty sure she wasn't in this class. Chris shifted in his seat, staring at her when she aggressively slammed down a flyer in front of the three of us.
"Mrs. Adams is allowing me to talk to students and try persuading them to come to the Winter Formal." I blinked, not understanding since her words came out rushed.
"It's going to be really fun, trust me! This year's theme is a Winter Wonderland! Doesn't it sound fun?! You guys should totally come, it's the Saturday after break starts. Not here in the school gymnasium but look, all the info is here." Chris stared blankly, his lips parted while Jonah rubbed the side of his head as if she was giving him a headache.
"Um... sorry, what? Can you speak a little slower?" She nodded enthusiastically, grabbing a chair to pull it towards our table before plopping down.
"Winter Formal! There's going to be drinks, food, music, of course we can't have a dance without music! You all should come, it's going to be a blast!" Her words all merged together, her smile widening. She spoke way too fast.
"Jesus, is she on crack or something?" Jonah muttered it and she turned towards him, her eyes narrowing.
"Excuse me?" He shrunk down in his seat, wisely keeping his mouth shut.
"Anyway... I hope to see the three of you there and maybe you two should run for Ice Queen and Ice King. It would be nice since you two are a cute couple." She motioned towards Chris and I while Jonah clenched his jaw.
"We're not together." I commented, causing her to quickly backtrack.
She stood up, her ponytail swishing as she awkwardly laughed. "Well, you two then." She pointed towards Jonah, and I shook my head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"We're all just friends." Her cheeks turned a bright red and she fidgeted with her fingers.
"Um... okay, then... uh, don't forget to buy tickets. Bye!" She swiftly made her escape to another table to talk, leaving the flyer behind.
Both Jonah and Chris eyed the flyer before glancing towards me. There was a sudden tension between the two as they kept flickering their gaze from the flyer to me. Finally, they both looked towards each other, an unspoken agreement between them. I kept quiet, moving to crumble up the flyer.
"I'm not into dances." I murmured, heat rushing to my cheeks.
Chris smiled, agreeing, "Me neither." I blew out a breath, picking my pencil back up while Chris picked up the balled up flyer to throw it away.
The moment Chris left, Jonah wrapped his arm around my shoulders and leaned in towards me. I shuddered when his lips brushed against my ear, his breath hot against my neck.
"Maybe I can change your mind about the dance." He murmured then pressed a soft kiss against my jaw.
He pulled away the moment Chris started heading back and I looked around to see if anyone was looking. I blew out a breath, suddenly wanting to go to the dance. More accurately, I want to go with Jonah.
